1987 Firebird Formula 350 Hey all, I'm considering selling my Formula so i can focus on finishing another project. I'm wondering what a good asking price for it might be. Here are the details: 1987 Firebird Formula 350, currently on its second owner 94K or so on the clock Exterior is about a 7.5-8.5 Interior is immaculate Former GM High Tech Performance project car with appearances in Car Craft magazine 383ci with Lunati forged rotating assembly, AFR 195 heads, Edelbrock lower intake manifold and full ported factory upper FAST EZ EFI 2.0 ECM with Holley injectors and fuel pump T56 six-speed swap with Ram clutch and flywheel Weld RTS 18x9 wheels with Nitto NT05 tires QA1 Pro coilovers, rear lower control arms and panhard bar New AC system by Classic Auto Air, needs to be recharged, i just haven't done it since they installed the system as the engine was out of the car and it's winter now It runs and drives great. Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 I forgot to mention it has the Hawks/Stainless Works long-tube headers and MagnaFlow exhaust. I have a general idea of what i would like to ask for the car, but I haven't been watching the market on Third-Gens so i'm hoping for a little insight. Thanks, Steve |
Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 The engine made 384 hp at 5,800 rpm and 454 lb-ft of torque on an engine dyno. It'll make a lot more if you feel like swapping the intake manifold to a Miniram or maybe the Edelbrock ProFlo XT. |

Personally, I am having a hard time with the 10K thing tho... guess there are quite a few F-body's out there, but hell- that is one CLEAN and well-done set-up. I guess the market will catch up with MY expectations in time but I feel our cars just should be pulling more than they are at currently. I would advertise on here for sure... cuts down on the scammers, etc. as well as if someone is searching on here, they already have a pretty good idea of their specific 'wants'. I sometimes think car shows may help in some cases too. A lot of our cars really MUST be seen 'in person' to get a better appreciation of the love, time and dollars we've sunk into our (most of the time) 'losing investments'- I don't think I've ever 'made' money or broken even(not that it's ever been my goal tho) on a car I've owned but I can say with a fair degree of certainty that I have made at least a few 'buyers' quite happy LOL. Someone should be overjoyed IMO with your Formula for 10K and I'm guessing it won't be FS for too long either... GLWS!! |

In my personal experience, though limited, mods add no value to a car/bike/truck and in some cases actually detract from the value unless you find "that guy" who is looking for what you are selling. That being said, if I were in the area and had 10k burning a hole in my pocket I would pick this car up in a heartbeat. |

Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 I’d say $10k.. Mods usually detract from the price, but the look of the car is intact. Once you personalize a car too much you lose a lot of buyers.. These mods are tasteful performance mods that are desireable and show well. A Formula with almost 100k miles would not even sell for $10k.. The Firebird market is weaker than the IROC market and as Someone said above, the top dollars are going to the untouched, original low mile cars.. If your underside is clean as a whistle that can help encourage buyers and I’d show it. With close to 100k miles some might think the underside is a little beat up and starting to show rust. Definitely a confidence builder for a buyer to see underneath.. I would maybe ask $11,500 and see what you get but I think around $10k is what it would sell for. If the original wheels are in good shape maybe show those too. Any documentation, owner’s manual, warranty packets, window sticker.. People like to have that stuff.. I see mint factory original Formulas selling from $15-19k and that’s with under 20k miles. The higher price range under 10k miles.. |
Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 If the A/C is an easy fix I’d do that to get top dollar.. There are buyers who won’t touch a car without A/C.. Maybe do some detailing.. get that scuff on the nose addressed and buff out any scratches.. do a good polish and sealant and get some pics in flouresent or LED lighting that shows the paint condition.. white is tough and sunlight just makes it look “whiter” Its hard to get top dollar when you people have a list of things to fix.. (not that it sounds like there’s much here) |
Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 10k to right buyer but realistically probable around 8k you can get 10k for right buyer right time so if your patient enough to sell then wait might take a min thirdgen is a niche market and firebird formula is a smaller niche for the ones that go for above 10k they are usually fully restored and or untouch mint condition models sadley modified thirdgens don't fetch higher $$ like other platforms do and only ones that I see that do get more $$ have been LSX swap cars with very clean bodies and people are buying the car but the selling point is the LSX drivetrain market value for clean untouch models have been rising tho , but I don't see modified versions rise as well which kinda sucks |
Re: 1987 Firebird Formula 350 I'm working on some of the minor issues now. I do have all of the original paperwork and receipts from the original owner. Plenty of documentation to go with it. The underside is clean, but unfortunately i haven't been able to get it on a lift to take some decent pictures. |

Then I realized the car was sold the week before I saw the ad. :( ...But for the most part I agree and very few mods float my boat. Drag tires? Bling? Showy paint job? Replaced TPI with a carb? Those things aren't for me. |
