Just wondering, how can you tell if the glass in a THird gen was replaced - does the windsheild have LOF or G.M markings on it?- what about the windows and hatch?

I know that there wer different companies tham made the T-top Glass, I think LOF and PPG.


As for windshields, however, GM has never made their own glass in the past 40 years or so to my knowledge. If the darker tinted band on top of the windshield has faded to yellow instead of blue then you might have the original glass.

Guardian is definately an aftermarket,
LOF & PPG has been used by GM in the past. I believe LOF made our windshield , unfortunately I do not have access to my 2nd formula right now which I believe has the original glass.

Beyond that there is nothing that would determine wether your windshield is the one from the factory as you could replace it with the OEM one.

GM was still primarlily using LOF(Libbys Own FORD) back in the 80's. The writing was silk screened on and was typically gray or a silver color. The new LOF windows have more of a printed look writing and its usually black.

If you look closely there are a couple letters which is the date code for the window. I don't remember how to decode them but I found the info on the web a while ago.

All of my windows are LOF - although I am quite positive that the front window has been out at least once, I guess it was replaced by GM, or it was only removed for the bady painting.
Not sure.
I guess if glass is broken under warranty, do/did GM dealers get GM equipment as replacement glass, or did they job it out?

Some do their own glass, some don't.

I would ask around to see who does good glass in your area. A dealer will be your most expensive choice. AVOID anyone who will come to your work and replace it there. Although their work seems ok, They sometimes are hacks and to not do a good job. You are better off taking your car to a glass shop.

Actually if you know someone in the bump and paint industry ask them they should know where would be a good place to get it done. Or just call around to bump and paint places.
