rear window louvers ever a factory option?? guys i just bought an 85 trans am recently and it came with factory louvers. I hate the way ehy look so i took them off. While i was at it i wanted to make a few bucks doing it. So i found a guy from texas willing to pay me 75$ plus shipping for them. My question is, was that a factory option?? If it is i want to keep them and just put them away so i always have it to the cars origionality is kept. If not than i will sell them. I need responses by tomorrow sometime. I know they were on camaro's, so they should've been on 'birds. look for the RPO DE1 to see if they were factory on your car. |
Yep, there's an 85 Trans Am at my dad's shop right now with rear window louvers. ------------------ West Coast GM Shootout 2001! 1991 Camaro Z28 5.7L 5-Speed (originally 305) 13.25 @ 107.18 MPH Southern California Member: SoCal 3rd Gen F-Bodies Webmaster: SoCal F-Bodies -=ICON Motorsports=- |
Starting with 1986 Model year Camaros you could get them from the Factory, I'm not sure on the Firebird, but probably '86 too. My '91 RS was sopposed to have them on from the factory, but either they left them off, or somebody ripped them off on the way to the dealer. I took the credit for them instead of having them put them on. Chris |
I HAVE DE1! |
I know that I read somewhere in some old literature a story on the 91 Firebirds and they were talking about how Pontiac had brought back the window louvers as an option again so I am only to assume that it was an option at some point before that, when....I don't know. ------------------ www.TransAmGTA.com 1992 GTA (226 made), 1 of only 18 "Dk. Save it. To have a TPI, yellow '85 T/A is a rare thing. Keep it original! |
i hear u man, Thats one thing i do for all my cars and thats keep them mostly origional. Man the more i research this car the happier i am with it. I love thirdgens https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/biggrin.gif |
I believe the first year for DE1 on firebird was 1983. Not sure what the last year was .. maybe 88 or 89? my 85 base bird had the louvers in black which I took off and still have. There's another 85 base bird near me which is red and the louvers are also red! I don't know if this is the stock color but it looks great if you're into that sort of thing. |
