1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C I recently stumbled into a 1991 B4C car here in Hawaii. I have been looking for a V8 car to repalce my 2.8, something for a driver/autocross project. Weather in Hawaii is hard on cars that sit, and this one has some surface rust on the roof and is rusted through the windshield pillar. If it was just a 305 RS i'd pass, but it is only $500 and is a rare car, so I want to pick it up and get it back on the road. It has a dead fuel pump, unfortunately the last owners cut a hole in the floor trying to replace it. They were unsuccessful, but installed an inline and say the car runs/drives nicely. It has 90,000 miles and is all there and original. I thought all A.C equiped cars were 1LE, but it appears this one is a 5.7, A/C equipped, non 1LE car. Anyone have any advice? they current ownere bought it off the original police owner broken, and never got it running. They were thinking of pulling the 350 and junking the car if no one bought it. The interior is pretty nice, the body is straight with no signs of a wreck or repair. Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C IMHO $500 is a steal for a real B4C that is as heavily optioned a car for what she was intended for. Some people tring to take short cuts and getting frustrated when they don't work end a lot of projects.Like to see the pics when you get the chance to post.I'm not sure on the 1LE A/C cars.Ordering A/C(C60)triggered the addition or deletion of certain other powertrain/driveline combinations from what I've read. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C B4C is a RPO option and NOT a car Model.  It is a RS with a lot of options. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Yes it is an option package but on the RS coupe and not the Z28. |

Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C I read ont the board that there were only 175 350 B4C with 1LE cars. Of the limited # of B4C's I wonder how many were 350 non 1LE... http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3...4076ew7.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/9...4075ol2.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1...4074wg7.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7...4073js3.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1...4071gm3.th.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/8...4070am8.th.jpg ---------- B4C `Special Service' police package became available to law enforcement agencies only. Cars were RS coupes with Z28 5.0 TPI or 5.7 TPI drivetrains and Z28 suspensions. These cars came equipped with the 16 inch wheels and P245/50-ZR16 tires, engine oil cooler, rear disc brakes, and limited slip axle. Midyear, the 1LE 11.86 inch front brakes and HD calipers became optional for the B4C. This package was the only way to get air conditioning and the HD front brakes. There were 592 1991 B4C Camaros built. That is the text from the main page I'm referring to. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C It seems to me that from what I've read, '91 was the first year for B4C and '92 was the first year the B4C got the 1LE designation in the RPO codes. I know I've read that somewhere. That doesn't mean the parts weren't on the '91s, they just didn't get the designation. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll go try to find where I read that. ---------- From www.camarosource.ca... Chevrolet built 589 Camaro's with Special Service Package (RPO B4C). It was similar to RPO G92 with air conditioning since it offered the same engine choices, had dual-converter exhaust, 16-inch wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes (including Corvette-style front brake calipers), engine oil cooler, 145-mph speedometer and special suspension. RPO B4C was restricted to RS Coupes. RPO B4C Camaro's in 1992 (but not 1991) included the "1LE" code on their service parts identification labels, apparently due to the inclusion of the Corvette-style front brake calipers. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Man that car is in rough shape. But it's a steal at $500. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Yeah, she needs some polishing. Hawaii is hard on cars, and this one sat on the north shore, right on the hardest hit area of the Island. Imagine parking your car at the beach for two years...they just rot so fast. It really is solid except the pillar, and certainly needs paint. The interior is all there and rather clean really. My budy tells me I am nuts for trying, but this is not the first car I've brought back from the dead. My GN was in worse shape and was being parted out to go to the crusher when I got it. So what is the opinion on the board? Saveable? Worth $500 and then the thousands I need to put into it to save this car? Ed |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C CSP B4C you may have also read 1LE in '92 in the SPID(but not '91)apparently due to the inclusion of the Corvette style front calipers. That's paraphrased from the "Camaro Whitebook"(which isn't 100% all the time)but pretty much word for word as camarosource.ca.Other than that the package seems to be the same between the 2 years. And I thought Southeast cars faired bad from the sun and salt air(at least it's not a Northeast car that rust from the underside out.being covered probably didn't help her if it trapped moisture(I found this out the hard way).I stand by my first thought of save her.For that amount of initial investment you could take your time with her. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Wow even the serp belt looks rusty. I still would pay up to 1000 for that car. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Got the car trailered home today. They already cut the hatch for the pump, so I went ahead and cut the hard lines to get it out. I installed the new pump and hit the key, it's humming now. We are going to flare the lines and put it together with fittings, then repair the hole with a hatch cover. The fuel tank was full and is varnished, so I need to pump it out, I am seeing if the batt will hold a charge (was supposed to be new 1.5 years ago), and then see if it runs/drives. |
Re: 1991 B4C - Non 1LE 5.7 Auto, A/C Well just a status update for everyone... - Did the fuel pump, car would not start - Traced it to clogged injectors, replaced the injectors and did an AFPR at the same time. Car fired up and sounded great. - Needed a new oil pressure sender and VSS - Replaced both power window motors - Got an airbag and horn buttons (old one fell apart from heat/sitting) - Fixed the hatch latch - Did the brakes - Complete tune-up Got it registered and past safety on Friday, and was cruising this weekend. So far it runs great and drives very nice. Now the cosmetic stuff! I am planning on running it in SCCA on the 9th of Sep. It might be the ugliest car there, but I'll see what it has! Ed |
