190 hp or 215? 305 tpi
 

is there anything in the casting numbers of the heads or the engine that will tell me what HP engine i have or does this have to do with what transmission is bolted to it? i do know its a roller cam engine if this makes a difference

Nothing different with the heads or engines. Where are you getting these HP ratings from?

if you look on this site for an 87 firebird, there is a list of different engines and it tell their stock hp

Ah, yeah. Yes, based on the transmission. The only thing that may of been different between the two was a different cam, but I am not even 50% sure on that...

That makes no difference. They all went to a roller cam in 87.

Hello 1990s10!!

Is this the same engine as your other post in the History/Restoration forum, with an engine code of V0226SFW, that was mated to an auto transmission?? In 1987 the auto transmissioned 305's had 190 HP!!

My understanding is that the 305 mated to a manual tranny had 215 hp. If mated to the automatic tranny, it had 190. The "peanut cam "was changed for a more aggressive cam for the manual combo. The gtasourcepage.com lists the same numbers for GTAs.

Yes that is correct. I know for 88 and 89 LB9s that were mated to a T5 recieved the L98 cam while those mated to a 700R4 got the peanut cam. I'm not sure about other years though.

i don't really know about that...but if you really wanna be positiv no doubts, i would have it dynoed...I think 190, but only because of what I've read.
