Love that commerical i had to rewind the first time i saw it just to make sure what i saw was a 3rd gen. "i don't even think its street legal" LOL

Good eye. I believe it is, although not licensed in California anymore. Just missing the fog lamps.

A shame though that all they could find was a beat thirdgen. Doesn't really help us out IMO. Be a lot cooler if it was a cherry IROC.

I have to agree it does appear to be a California IROC. What's funny is how the commerical is so clearly aimed at my age group (30 something guys). I could insert myself in everyone of those scenes.

I think even heard that same line when I bought my 88 IROC at a used car dealership just out of college. Funny stuff :)

I too noticed they used a beat up one...my wife noticed it as well. Oh well...keep on keepin' on with the stereotypes :(

Its not THAT beat. Its got a straight body, just faded paint. That car looks a lot better than a lot of what you see here on TGO, my car included. You cant expect them to use a mint American high performance showcar in a video to advertise their new German sedans.

I've seen that a few times, first time about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I'm not that familiar with the details of a "California" IROC. In the few seconds it's on screen I only noticed the lack of hood lovers, thought maybe it was an RS or Sport model.

California IROC Package was RPO code 1C5. Deleted decals, rear spoiler, hood louvres, and striping. I think it was around from 85 to 87. Someone may correct me on the years it was available.

You know, there was a post about this in the Appearance and detailing board a few weeks back. I even commented on the fact that it's probably a base Camaro with IROC-Z rims and added ground effects. I mentioned that it didn't even have a spoiler, but I never even thought about the California IROC-Z! :doh:

Someone didn't do their research..the Massachusetts plate designs used through most of the commercial, including the moped scene, are 90's-2000's plates.

What research? 1C5's were only sold in California. The car must've been moved east during the '90's, thus the '90's era plates (or did I miss something else).

The seen at the dealership was probably filmed in CA. Each seen has different actors.

Yeah, but the point Brock was making is, all the vehicles in the commercial have Massachusetts plates, including the moped scene.
As Scott stated, there's a similar discussion in the detail/care board. It happens to have still frame shots of the commercial.

Well guys, I have never seen a Palm tree in Massachusetts. There are palm trees in the scene with the scooter and at the car dealership. It was filmed in CA regardless of what plates the prop department put on the cars.

Look closely and you will see the Palm trees.

I think the CA filming location helps confirm it probably is a real California IROC in the commercial.

Looks like someone at VW has some love or respect for our Third Gen's because they could have just as easily use a mustang.IMO.......

As a MA resident, while they are indeed red on white, that sequence of numbers couldn't possibly happen. For the time period in question, it would've had 4 #s followed by 2 letters.

Also, unlike CA, if a car is on a lot, it has no plates on it. Plates go with the owner, not the car, in MA.

I just noticed the mustang ragtop on the right side of the Camaro. So out of the TA the Camaro or mustang, he chose the Camaro.:cool: good choice.:driving:

I grew up there and don't remember the red white and blues until the 90's. Before that, 90% of them were green and white.
