Disc- Brakes and Posi Question

How rare are rear disc brakes with posi on a 1982 Camaro? I've looked all over the internet but have found nothing useful.

As others will say, there's no way to know. GM did not keep records of what cars were built with what options back then. I know in the world of '82 Pace Cars the rear discs are "rare" -- but again, there's no way of knowing how many total '82s had them.

The 82-88 J65 set-up is generally reviled here on TGO. That said, I experienced no issues with it. The system requires the use of the parking brake on a regular basis to function well. See the recall below.

There was enough demand for the 4 wheel discs, that GM actually ran into parts shortages for the system. Sometimes, you'll run across a WS7 early Trans Am, for example. That was a WS6 car with drum brakes, built during the shortage.

Is that something that can be upgraded now, or might they have somekind of aftermarket kit for it now?

I suspect that if you purchase remain calipers, the 'fix' is included. Of course, you can upgrade to the 89+ system with its 11.7" rotors and alum PBR calipers or even the LS1 set-up.

Here's the former:
