Hello everyone!

I joined this site about two weeks ago when I saw an ad for a 1982 Camaro on craigslist. I bought the car last sunday, and finally got someone to haul it home for me today. But after reading what I can on here, this car is confusing me. It seems that the vin numbers show that this is a sport coupe, however it has a berlinetta nose and dash. Is the dash the same as a normal one just with a "berlinetta" badge stuck on or are they different? If they are different would someone really go to the trouble to put in a different dash? Anyways, here are some pics if I can figure out the changes to photobucket since i haven't used it in a few years....

Also wondering if this stripe over the c pillars is a factory thing or added on? I actually like it, and am thinking of redoing this after new paint whenever that may happen...Attachment 350918

Forgot to add: the iron duke does run, just not getting fuel. This car came out of 8 years of storage, and fires right up with some gas shoved down it's throat. I am planning on dropping the tank and cleaning out 8 years of gunk and replacing the pump. Then I can take it for it's first test drive and see what else she needs. It does have a little rust on the lower outer edges, but it is very decent for a 31 year old from Wisconsin!

The only cars with different dashes were the Berlinettas with the digital instrumentation - and I'm pretty sure that was not an option in 1982.

Based on the pictures and options, I'd say your car is definitely a sport coupe. The nose does not look like a Berlinetta nose and Berlinettas did not cone with the iron duke. Only the sport coupes did.

The Berlinetta dash emblem could have been very easily changed out be someone -- it just clips in.

My money says the VIN is accurate.

Very cool. How many miles? 4 speed or auto. That stripe is someone's custom touch. Where in Wisconsin are you from?

Yes, it is an iron duke... About 100k on it, if I can trust the speedometer. I am in Rice Lake, WI, so I guess that is considered north west WI, or maybe still West Central WI. I did pick this up fairly cheap. I need to throw a fuel pump in her and take my maiden voyage before I decide what to do with her. I may just get her on the road and sell for a more suitable project for me. I have only had two other camaros in my life. One was a 79 RS that I bought with no engine. Picked up a 350, dropped it in and sold it before I even fired the thing. The other was a 78 Z28 with a 400 SB, I was 16 and traded for it, parents made me undo the deal... So total camaro ownership to date is about 7 days now lol.

Just made some more discoveries in this car... Besides finding 79 cents so far and a ring for my wife, I also have some original documents. Owners manual, delco radio manual, firestone tire warranty info, space saver spare tire brochure, emissions declaration from the chevy dealership from 1982, and a bunch of other old papers, all in really good shape. It does seem to be the case of being a real 100k mile car too, lots of records up until 2001, then a long dry spell as I was told this car had been in storage a while.

Yeah it's a sport coupe, but I also think it's cool that it's an iron Duke car. Keep us posted on the progress.

Since this is the originality section, here is a link to a slideshow which includes pics of a lot of the original 1982 dealer paperwork....
