You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

Came across this, as my car had the rpo codes missing and long gone, looks legitimate http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/

It is legitimate. Members have been using GM Media Archives for a few years to get a copy of their invoice. Note that it won't contain every single RPO code that is found on the SPID so it's not a replacement for a missing SPID.

^^Correct. I contacted them for the original invoice for my IROC, my old 86 TA and my old 91 RS. Worth every penny, in my opinion. To have a 100% accurate window sticker reproduction, this is essential as it has the original dealer the car was shipped to.

Jason, did the window sticker for the 86 TA resemble the one you get from PHS?or is it an exact copy of the window sticker,I'm also interested in the build sheet,PHS didn't supply that.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

My PHS kit on my 86 did not include a window sticker. Apparently, PHS has scaled back significantly what they used to give you. Now that memory serves me, I got my invoice from PHS for that car, not GM.

With that said, good luck with window-sticker.com if you want to order a replica of an original. I've seen people on here have problems, and I myself had an issue with 2 of the 3 I ordered. For my 97 Z28, it had the wrong fuel mileage (had it for an A4 car when mine is an M6). When I pointed that out, his response? "I don't normally do reprints for fuel mileage errors, but I'll do it for you anyway because I screwed up your other one"...he had Sport Coupe standard equipment on my IROC one.

Its kinda like, ok...you screw up and the only reason you'll fix it is because you screwed up 2 of them? Gee..quality customer service...

The build sheets that are discussed in this History section aren't readily available in copy or reproduction form. No one has stated being able to get a true copy of the build sheet for their vehicle. Some have referred to their invoice (as shown in Scott M's post above) as the build sheet but that's not the build sheet we all know and discuss.

What. A. Find. I followed the link and went to the Vintage Vehicle Information page. There's a link where you can download a 114-page document with just about every spec imaginable. Thanks for posting, Javier87z28.

I got mine for free from the GM dealership where I was getting my 90 GTA serviced. They asked if I wanted it and I said "sure". They hit a button on the computer and out it came. This was a few years back but they still look up parts using your VIN so I would think they still have the info.

I got mine so long ago they didn't block out the cars key codes.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

I've ordered a few of these myself. I like the major options listed for the car, the ship date which would be damn close to the build date, and the original dealer to where the car was delivered. Yes worth every penny.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

For anyone that reads this old thread from a search, you can often get a copy of the build/option sheet from CompNine (www.compnine.com). For $5 they give you 5 VIN reports; I highly recommend it for tracing back missing options. Note that this isn't the GM internal build sheet, but it's close enough for an SPID reprint.

For example: my 1987 GTA.

They say mine is unavailable.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

Compnine doesn't have records for the early ThirdGens (1982-~1989) unless they're exported ThirdGens. So your 1988 GTA not in the database but the previous poster's 1987 GTA Z49 (Canadian) having results is normal.

I also went thru GM Media Archive and I will agree it is worth every penny in my opinion. At least with the invoice I received for my special order 85, the name of the original owner is on page 2 of the invoice.

With the original owners name (in my case), along with the original ship-to dealer, date of invoice, how the car was shipped to the dealer, etc, its an amazing piece of my cars history. $50 is a bargain for that type of factual information.

I went a step further and got a window sticker reproduced from window-sticker.com and have no complaints.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

You can search this site and find your answer. Your car is a 1988, so it's either a Sport Coupe or an IROC-Z. Without the RPO codes, it's only a guess that someone didn't upgrade all of the necessary components to clone an IROC-Z. The IROC-Z would have the louvered hood, grid tail lights and monochromatic paint and a wonderbar steering brace. The steering wheel has a round horn button for the IROC-Z and it will have fog lights. If the door jamb sticker is still present, you can check for 16" wheels, however, 1988 came standard with 15" wheels, even on the IROC-Z. If the sticker shows 16", it's an IROC-Z. These are just a few ways to know what you have. Like I said, a search on this site will provide many more ways.

Re: You can retrieve lost rpo codes, But for a price lol

I just had mine done for our 1988 Trans Am GTA. RPO code sticker was missing from the center console so I wasn’t sure if it was a real GTA. Cost $50 with GM media archives and got a great copy of the original dealer order invoice. Had the y84 for GTA on it and the B20 luxury leather interior and also u52 which verified original digital dash car. Everything I was concerned with. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I had ALL my PRO codes but this was fantastic to get all major ones that concerned me. Well worth it IMO.
