Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots |
Re: Another driver quality '89 vert -some crusty spots Apparently it's an '88 according to the VIN, not an '89. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots all original Exhaust, tires... I'm exhausted with these BS ads. It's an above average beater, but to claim it's an "excellent" "all original" car is an insult to the plethora of ACTUAL excellent, all original thirdgen owners. There is no shortage of nice thirdgens. Unremarkable cars like this aren't even in the running for being anything special. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Just curious Drew, with 60 c-notes in your pocket and a gun to your head, which would you take if forced to, this one or the red '89 in the other thread? Eagerly awaiting your reply! |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Black over Red, personal preference. Kinda dig the blue stripe look. Would rather spend the $$$ on something without rust. Equal money I could put my butt behind the wheel of a 350 TPI car (hardtop) or a super-clean RS with room to grow. If I were looking to spend $6k on a thirdgen, I wouldn't even be thinking about convertibles unless one just fell in my lap. Just in general I think Thirdgen convertibles are a bit of a meh category. They're fantastic conversions, but the nature of being a convertible is in direct odds with being a performance car. I'm not terribly comfortable driving in convertibles anyway, but it seems like you trade a lot of performance for the drop top. Not to mention the practicality trade off. /Babbling. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/8pIAA...yz/s-l1600.jpg I'd be concerned that all these crusty spots are proto-holes. Look at the fuel lines, brake line, fuel filter bracket... Most of my cars are South Dakota cars and they don't look that bad. Huge turn-off. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Guys, Unless there is a real strong love I would stay away from this one like Drew said. Having restored a car I can tell you that fixing rust CORRECTLY IS EXPENSIVE. There is no way around it....Better to spend that money on a better car. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots That car has either been beaten on for 65,000 miles, or it's actually 165,000 miles. In either case, it's not worth the asking price. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots I don't know were u guys live but here in Pennsylvania that car looks pretty solid nothing that a wire brush wouldn't take care of. Lol!! No but I think ain't bad price for a iroc convertible on any 30+ year old car its going to need some tlc. 😏 |

Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Yea its getting harder to find thirdgens around my area that dont have some rust. i guess It depends on ur budget i think 6 grand ain't bad for a iroc convertible that u can drive and fix up or u can pay anywhere from 12 to 20 grand for a low mile garage queen but i dont see to many that u can get in and drive for less. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots I am a bit biased as love the color scheme (obv) - but I’d rather throw $2750USD at a “140k mile mystery door” and keep a couple K spare to get it ship shape. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars...ationFlag=true |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots I like it since all that had to be done is address/paint the undercarriage and drive it everywhere. Just address other problems as they show which is my kind of car. It’s all one color and the interior isn’t completely shot so based off pics it’s presentable as is for a daily. If it really does run and drive ok 6k range wouldn’t be bad imo. But something tells me the reserve is probably closer to 5 figures. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots I sent them a message letting them know that their "89" is actually an '88, about 24 hours ago. Still no response. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Car looked pretty cool until I saw underneath.. Definitely looks like a 165,000 mile underside.. |

Yeah, this looks like a typical, halfway decent Illinois car. I was thinking the same thing. A Wisconsin driver could end up like this underneath if it was ever driven in the wrong time of the year a few times. The interior & floor mats (if original) sure look like low mileage, paint work in the front end is pretty obvious. Kind of a cool car that no doubt needs some love. Kinda like it, but sure needs a little attention. Door decals look aftermarket & a fuzz high? |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots New shocks and rubber is a plus. Couldjya rehab those floor mats? -1 point for aftermarket deck. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots See this pic with the horrible swirls and paint finish defects? It almost turns me on, because I can imagine a before and after. See how weird I am? https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/RZAAA...xM/s-l1600.jpg |

I like this car’s color combo a lot though.. would look really sharp with a good repaint, moldings and decals.. |

The paint could definitely be improved.. The front end chips are rough.. are those rust bubbles on that turn signal pic? Man, who drives a rear wheel drive Vert in the winter? Yeah, it's like a threat! Like the people who say, "fully restored this car would sell for $30,000 at BJ". |

I can see you salivating at this Chaz. Let me ask you, What do you think a Chaz-resto would go for? I can see where this car would not probably not fit the complete resto as it would take a lot, I think 30k might be a little high unless the right buyer was in the room. I do think this is a great candidate for a flip just like the ones you have done before. I think that is where the value of this car lies. I think if you can get this car for 6K and do all the work yourself, you can have some fun and then maybe break even when you're ready to move on. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Didn't meet reserve. I think they were looking for around $12K for it. |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Guess what's back on eBay. They never corrected the model year, which is '88 and never executed their threat to paint it and ask double. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Chevro...53.m1438.l2649 |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Still for sale. Still a 1988 even though listed as an '89. And still haven't executed threat of of repainting and asking double. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Chevro...53.m1438.l2649 |
Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Pretty clean. What's the reserve on that? Any idea? |

Re: Another driver quality IROC vert -some crusty spots Same seller as the rusty underside black car..? maybe there’s a reason they don’t show the underside of the white one.. otherwise it looks nice.. |
