seatbelt repair kits on ebay

Thought I'd throw this out if you guys are interested.....I was browsing ebay and ran across several sellers offering "GM seatbelt repair kits" for our cars.

I figured if your seatbelts look mint (like mine) other than the faded pushbutton....these will freshen them up. It'll do front and rear belts.

Just do a search and you'll find them....I got my kit for $8.50 + 4.95 s/h

I think its funny how all those sellers claim that these are rare and have been discontinued from GM for over 10 years. The real fact is that they are still available.Cost is about 3-4 dollars for the package.

I use a small flat bladed screwdriver to do all mine.Word of advise......install the metal bumper first before you attempt to pry out the old button. What happens is if the buckles are old and brittle sometimes part of the bottom plastic lip will crack off when you pop the old buttons out.I learned this the hard way

1st thing I do is put on the metal bumper. Then I use a small flat bladed screwdriver to pop out the old button. They are held in by 2 clips on the back..one on each side.Put the screwdriver underneath one side of the button and pry on it.Sometimes its easier if you have 2 small screwdrivers as there are times when the one side pops free and then will pop back in place when you go to pop the other side .Once you get the old button out you should be able to see how the spring is held in place. The tough part is being able to get the new button to snap into place. It used to take me a very long time to do this. Now I am able to do a set in about 5 minutes

Does anyone have the GM Part# for the kits?

lordmetalz28 07-13-2008 11:24 PM

Re: seatbelt repair kits on ebay

i just installed mine i think i have the part bag in the garage or i have to dig threw the trash but i will because most gm parts guys are idiots and have no idea what that kit is. hence why i paid 15bucks for them on ebay

I just replaced my seat belt buttons. The first one was a hassle but the following three were a breeze. Just be gentle and follow the instructions. Had I known it was this easy... I would have replaced the buttons years ago.

Weren't these the parts that were installed as part of the seat belt recall?

Yes, I believe the stupid, non-factory giant metal clips that go on the outside of the seatbelt receiver were part of the recall. I decided not to install mine after buying this kit as they look horrible on the car, and no one else seems to have them either.

Easy install once you get the hang of it, but I'd definitely recommend practicing on ones at a parts car first. I broke one of my receivers trying to get the old button out, and had to replace it.

According to the instructions that came with mine , it said the metal clips were not to be used on any 90-92. My belts are from a 90 so I did not use them.

These are still available at the dealers for about $8 per kit!

I get mine on, and then the push bittons wont bounce back. Is that because the button is not seated correctly? Im becoming frustrated..lol

Do you have the spring in the right place?

Did you get the instruction sheet?

Re: seatbelt repair kits on ebay

I got it! I purchased them through a vendor and they give you a piece of aluminum to stick in the belt to aid in the button catches to clip onto the mechanism. I wasnt pushing the housing forward enougn for the button to snap on correctly. Once I figured that out, it was smooth sailing. Looks so much better. Thanks

 Looks good! The updated buttons wear better, but they still may fade or get foggy with age. On the later cars I usually go over the buttons with a dressing once in awhile to keep them bright. FWIW.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered another set yesterday, just to have on hand.
