the springs in the seat belt are really weak i have pulled my seat belt off and reset the spring twice already and i have only owned the car since december 7 eventually i plan to get a set of 4th gen seat belts and put them in the car.

Are you talking about the seatbelt receivers? Cuz they can be easily rebuilt with the GM kit for like 17 bucks... Takes 15 minutes per receiver.

i was talking about the part bolted to the roof. you said a rebuild kit is 17 buck. alright that would probably fix it but why spend 17 bucks on that when i can get 4th gen seatbelts for 10 bucks which will not only fix them not retracting but it will also fix the fact that none of the PO have took care the recall. cheaper and fixes more

will 4th gen seat belts bolt up to the roof and floor in our cars and look good? I really need to replace my front seat belts in my 84. It is the last thing I need to do to finish the interior restoration. except I can't find any new or nice used black seat belts.

Re: Seat belts in my '88 won't retract.

yes fourth gen seat belts bolt directly in only thing different is the lap part of the belts don't retract in a fourth gen. so the stock cover for it wont work. what most people do is get the cover off of an 82 cuz there the same way. me personally i probably won't bother covering it or make something custom.
1heres a link to a thread about it.
