Aftermarket Seats... what do you like best?

Hey guys,

We just acquired a new project car at UMI. Right now I plan on just keeping this car a mildly modified cruiser. The front seats are pretty rough in it and I was looking at adding Corbeau's to it. Any seat you guys have had good luck with in the 3rd gen? We run the LG1's in two cars and they are actually really comfy. Just looking for any other feedback.

I run the corbeau forza in mine on stock rails. Works great.

Depends on the interior colors tho. I really like factory 4th gen leather seats as well. In a dark grey to black interior thirdgen

Corbeau TRS Reclining!
I asked if they had any imperfects, which saved me some money on the pass seat (I cannot tell even when they told me the imperfection). I also ordered extra hide to have the backs seats re-upholstered to match - or you could get matching fabric. I try to avoid logos whenever possible - leather is the only option to avoid. I even used some hide to re-cover the console lid to match, and the door panel - helps to tie in the interior with the leather of the seats. I don't like disjointed interiors.

You could also get cheapest fabric, then have re-upholstered to your liking, but most won't go that far. Use the 4th Gen double locking slide rails (mount lower)- you don't want single locking.

I was going to suggest this site but if its only racing seats your interested in.

If its a Third Gen like ours then.....
Take a good look at this site. Even if its not exactly what your looking for at this time, the work is amazing and they do Custom Embroidery.
Maybe a nice "UMI Performance" stitched on there.

Love UMI parts by the way.

Thanks guys.

I am maybe looking for a mix of race and comfort. I don't know if we will go full out on this car or make it an occasional track car with street comfort. That was why we liked the Corbeau in the past.

I appreciate the feedback!

Corbeau GTS ii or old school Recaro ls or lx.

The large shoulder bolsters on newer seats look out of place to me on a 3rd Gen.

Over the years Ive found trying to buy seats out of a catalog next to impossible. I was looking for seats for my racecar. I had sat in tons of Kirkey's and didnt like any of them. Then I stumbled upon this ric er shop that had an incredible selection of seats on display that you could sit in and test. I tried them all. In the end I bypassed many very expensive seats Like Recaro's, Bride's and Corbeau's and settled with Sparco Evo 2's. They fit me great! The width of your shoulders, the width of your hips and especially the length of your torso are all huge factors in how comfortable a seat feels to YOU. Dont buy any seat without trying it

One of the most important questions is also how tall are you? Can everybody who listed their seats also list how tall they are and how close their head is to the roof when sitting upright? I'm 6'1"-6'2" and the Scat seats I have on a set of brackets I made and if I cannot sit straight up without my helmet touching the roof. Even besides that though I would say stay away from the Scat seats (which I think are also the Summit/Jegs seats) because they just feel somewhat flimsy.

You talk about the hide and then say to avoid leather. I'm not sure what you meant to say. Can you clarify?

Agree. '99 Trans Am seats in my Firebird. Still have 50 different shades of grey in the car but the darker seats look much better than the light grey that were original to my car.

Grab the matching 4th gen seat belts with the seats because the 3rd gen light grey belt will stick out like a sore thumb against the new seats.

Re: Aftermarket Seats... what do you like best?

Sorry, it was clear in my head.
Leather is the only option in order to avoid logos from Corbeau. All fabric options will have their logo stitched on the seats.
That's why I suggested the lowest price fabric, then re-upholster to your liking with another fabric of one's choosing.
But I do like leather and was willing to pay for it, not everyone likes or is willing to pay.

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind if/when I look for seats to accommodate a harness.

Yeah, I wanted to get rid of the Dove Grey, also.
I was at a frame shop when the interior was original, and the owner came over and said that I should tint the windows. I replied that I wasn't really into that, here in the north. He said my car had such great lines, and that the dove grey interior was drawing the eye into the cabin and away from the exterior lines. That was a good observation. Now that I've darkened up the interior, it does make a difference. Still undecided on the tint, though.

I'm 6'4" and have room on the street. I do recall Corbeau put out a bulletin on how to get some more room. I've never checked into it, but I might. With a helmet on, I have very little room. I make it work, but more room w/helmet would be nice.

Re: Aftermarket Seats... what do you like best?

Personally, I think the car would look better with tinted windows. It will definitely reduce visibility at night but you get used to it over time. Count on losing function of some of the defrost lines on the rear glass because the process is abusive to the delicate wire. And removing tint will utterly destroy the defrost.

If you tint then spend money on excellent material, otherwise after some years it will look like junk. I have the same tint that was laid on the glass in 1993 and it still looks good BECAUSE I spent the money.
