Best material to repair Dash Pad? I did a search and came up with some old threads on this. Any new improved material that's best to repair the cracks? |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? US currency... As in buy a new one. I can't say I've ever seen one repaired that wasn't obviously repaired. I'm sure it's possibly to make one look better, but for the work involved, it's easier to buy one thats not cracked. |

Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? wow I didnt even bother to search for a new one, Didnt think it would be available! |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? One can usually find a used one that is uncracked for $200 but the new ones are twice that. Although it's possible to fiberglass the whole thing (I did mine) I wouldn't recommend it since it is a huge project getting it totally flat. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...f8b0f5d1ff.jpg |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? I fiberglassed mine too. Painted it black then sprayed it with truck bedliner from Harbor Freight. Turned out really nice. It was a big job, but fun too.. |

Which has a near perfect dash, as well as a spare near perfect dash. Unfortunately I can't say the same for my '91 RS since apparently they never hold up in Camaros. |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? Its (almost) always easier to buy something new than repair what you have, but its definately not too much work & worth doing in the end.Just take your time.I redid mine in leather & put t/a grills inplace of the built in camaro grills. |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? the new is too expensive, not worth it to me. Mine actually is in pretty good shape, just a little crack at one corner. I have ordered this: |

Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? Until I can afford a new dash for my GTA, I bought a dash cap. It don't look far off from the stock dash except for the speaker covers. Definitely looks alot better than the busted up rotted dash under it. It's abs plastic and snapped right in. Most people can't even tell it's a cap. I found it online for around$115 shipped. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...330a1208ae.jpg I will post a better pic if needed. |

Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? I have toyed with the idea of cutting the speaker holes out and fitting my original grills in there. The texture is almost spot on and it would be hard to tell if I could get the grills in there properly. |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? Thats what i ended up using, trimmed down a bit though. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...5bcdce9515.jpg |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...d5bcc7aa71.jpg I see good quality dashboards at the auto yard quite often. I finally got around to doing mine this weekend (as you can see, it really needed it...) Cost me only $15 and the only downfall was it was missing one air vent cover, which I was able to pop off the original dash. |

Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? My dash was perfect until I thumped the corner of it with my knee getting out of the car on a steep driveway. A couple pieces of the covering flaked off. I am also interested in the viability of a repair, it's such a small spot but it drives me nuts. If not, what about applying adhesive and recovering over the dash without peeling it? That recovering is a beauty, by the way, 84. |

Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? That turned out really nice. |
Re: Best material to repair Dash Pad? Yes, the HF stuff. I tried some Duplicolor bedliner since the nearest HF is 2 hours away. Hated it. WAY too glossy and didn't like the texture. Held out till I was in town near a HF. Worth the wait. it turned out great.. |
