New steering wheel on the way! NRG Quick Release

Hi all!

So I just ordered a new steering wheel + quick release + hub.

For 245$ I thought it was a pretty good deal especially considering it's NRG's new style quick release... What I notice is that as the colors get more abstract (red, pink, etc...) the prices seem to drop for the kits. My favorite color is red so I went with this one since it was 30-40$ less than the blank/grey.

This is exactly what I ordered:
Here's the reasons I went with this kit:
  1. 1. I didn't like many of the grant wheels besides the club sport
  2. 2. The grant setup felt a bit proprietary to me as they're 3/5 bolt wheels
  3. 3. This kit would allow me to run any 6 bolt wheel which seems more common across various steering wheel brands.
  4. 4. The price seemed pretty good for what I'm getting.

Just for the record... Here is the exact model numbers of each piece within the kit in case anyone wants to replicate this setup or anything similar (hoping it's successful):
  • NRG Innovations SRK-170H Short Hub Adapter
  • NRG Innovations SRK-250RD Quick Release (I believe RD = Red)
  • NRG Innovations RST-012R-RS Steering Wheel (I believe RS = Red stitching)

Stay tuned... :)

Did it move the wheel out far?
how solid does the quick connect feal?
is it sloppy. I want to do this but don't want any play add in

It did move the wheel out. You can see in one of my pictures I can no longer reach the turn signal switch with my hand easily. With the stock setup I could do this. I would have to measure to determine exactly how much farther it is. I would say it's very sturdy. The only thing that's making mine not super sturdy is my loose steel pins/housing on the GM tilt column causing the typical 7 o clock play but that has nothing to do with the steering wheel or the NRG parts.

Thanks! :) ... I do wish the wheel was a lil bigger! Should have gotten the 350mm

I might just have to copy this setup but I would want to shorten that distance to the turn signal lever. What was the deciding factor for which hub to use?

The deciding factor was that they sold the whole kit with it which seemed like a good deal to me... I know, I would want the wheel closer to the blinker too. But at this point, I’m use to it and don’t notice it anymore. Overall, I really like it now that I’ve driven with it for quite some time! I wouldn’t ever go back to the old wheel.

I have a roll cage in my car so deciding between having the quick release or not is what holds me back.I think if I dont use the quick release..it would be perfect. Having the wheel that much closer to me being 6'1 might make driving a little uncomfortable.

Im looking at the same wheel as you just in the suede instead of leather, and then change the horn button to an arrow head..The NRG logo sticks out too much for my liking lol.

I guess I could order it all and just try it with and without the quick release and then decide what setup I like best..which is an expensive way to do it .

So if I was to change what I did, I would probably do this instead...

Buy the hub + quick release. Then buy a really nice 6 bolt wheel such as the Driver ones. They have those in suede and I think they look really cool. You’re right about the quick release, it adds a lot of length and isn’t needed. I think it’s kinda cool but for the most part, it’s not something I care much about. The nicest part about it is showing non-car people lol

Re: New steering wheel on the way! NRG Quick Release

Bringing this back from the dead. I wanted to share my setup. I went with the NRG hub and leather steering wheel with push buttons so I can use line lock and launch control on the wheel. To me right now without the quick release, the distance to the turn signals feels stock being a flat wheel..not much change there. I can reach with ease. However the 12.4 wheel feels odd since its smaller diameter, but gives a more direct steering feel. The leather itself...you can see just in how its wrapped..isnt quality to rave about, its a cheap wheel no doubt. I may change that out for something else in suede. but i can get in/out of the car easier now. A quick release for me might be ok since I would take the wheel off ..it might also also aid in driving the car at the track having the wheel spaced more forward. Im 6'1 and my seats is all the way back now and I extended my arms out now to drive..this might make me more comfortable. Anyways, heres how my car looks.

Looks good. Not my style but clean install for sure.

I'm running a Forever Sharp black on black half wrap stearing wheel w/ a simlilar quick release. No current pics at the moment but if anyone cares I can snap a few and post.

I agree, the style Im not 100% on..but function over form was the goal. But its easy to change to another wheel now also. And for sure post up what ya got, gives ideas for others to think about.
