1987 IROC Z Interior 7 Attachment(s) Just Posting some pictures of the interior of my G92 Code IROC Z With the factory UL5 Radio Delete. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Beautiful, like new condition I wonder why that seat design was only in 87' |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior It was the deluxe vinyl interior as per the rpo code, I hadn’t seen it before I got this car either |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Should be leather actually. Vinyl was reserved for the high-back buckets. One year only interior pattern is because it's the 20th Anniversary. Duh. Just kidding, yeah it's the 20th anniversary, and yeah it'd make sense, but there's nothing official I've ever seen to suggest the connection. It's just a plausible explanation that fits the facts. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Yeah it is leather, and I do like that seat pattern, it’s a car I’ve always wanted with the radio delete, t tops 5 speed and g92 code |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Beautiful |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior That’s my favorite interior.. nice! |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Thank you |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior So our dove grey interiors can look nice. I have been contemplating going to black interior but maybe a two tone mix of black and grey. Greet looking interior! |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Thanks! Yeah man, I like the look of the interior myself over the black, maybe you could make a two Tone look good though |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Wow that interior is amazing!!! |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Thanks! |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Your seats look like they are leather all the way around. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior This is what the custom cloth should look like - stunning really when survived or restored right. Mine will be like that again....soon! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...3c176624d7.jpghttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...8cc83229f9.jpg |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Hey PurelyPMD, my interior is just like that, only in red. I tried restoring it, but no where could I find the same cloth material. So, as soon as I find red leather that matches the cloth there now, it's going to get full leather seats with the same stitching style and the upper section of the door cards. But for now, I live with custom cloth. :D |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior PurelyPMD That is going to be a nice interior, i do like the leather i have but it can wear out alot faster, luckily my entire interior is Mint and i plan to keep it like that as i only drive it a couple thousand miles a year at best. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Yes those are great examples of what fresh grey can be. I can live with that for sure. Eventually I want l lethalinteriors to do some covers. My plastics are in great shape it is just the fabric and carpet that needs to be new again. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Is yours cloth or leather? |

This is what the custom cloth should look like - stunning really when survived or restored right. Got the driver's door panel off right now to do some PM in the door. Gotta change the window stop, add some NVH, replace the belt weatherstrips, and so on... Might just tackle the upper half of the door panel while its apart. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Yeah i installed all new weatherstrips throughout last year and new seat belt plastics due to them being faded and cracked in a couple spots, the whole interior is like new now, the only thing left is the leather on the steering wheel. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior What are you guys using to restore and keep these interiors so clean? i have the red leather interior that wasn't taken care of so the arm rests are a little black from who knows what .... really is stunning how amazing your interiors are. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior I use a all purpose cleaner for detailing on the console and dash, then i use conditoner on the seats monthly just during the months i drive it, and steam cleaning the carpet goes a long way as well. |

Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior SMS has the NOS fabric for our seats - I do not believe they have the leather. https://smsautofabrics.com/ Simple Green will clean up any of the interior plastics including the door handle/armrest in your car. I've found the seats for my car although I'm not 100% satisfied with them - may just have to buy a complete, nice car with a mint interior and swap out what I want for mine then sell the other car when done. ;) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...7888da1caf.jpg |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior LOL, i would say getting a mint car for the seats is probably a good idea if you want it done correctly, i like that. |

Preservation goes a long way. Once something is more than dirty, you're going to have your work cut out for you. Carpet can be replaced, headliners and sunvisors can be recovered, seats just about have to be well preserved since reproduction upholstery isn't generally correct. Some pieces can be cleaned, or painted. Sometimes you just have to find a part from a donor car that's in better condition than the one you've got. The only fix for rubbed off lettering on switches and whatnot is to replace the switches with new ones. Replace enough parts and an interior starts to look new again. |

Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Yeah I am slowly cleaning up my interior. The car sat outside for 5 years and the back seat looks like it hasn't even been sat in. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...728e943d8.jpeg |

I won't completely say that money is no object but to buy a 10 or 15k car with a mint interior, swap everything over and put my decent interior back in the other car then sell it off at a 1 to 2k loss isn't out of the spectrum for me. Pics when new and strapping it to my trailer in 2014 in Janesville Wisconsin. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ine-again.html All that said, I reached out to SMS today to get a fabric sample and to get the pricing on the 87 Custom Cloth which I'll share with everyone when I get. Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Oops, never mind. I did a quick search and they did come with antenna's from the factory.:totopic: |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Yeah I took my antenna off and put it away because I keep it under cover |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior These radio delete cars are for sure hard to find trust me lol |

Didn't the radio delete cars have a plug in the fender where the antenna would go? |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior PurelyPMD Do you have any photos of your interior? I am just curious as to what your interior looks like? |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Now? Scary really. Prior owner had a dog he took with him everywhere so the original interior got trashed. He then installed a different color interior from a different year and that got trashed as well. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...cf21c25075.jpghttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...be98032125.jpg |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Oh man, talk about a lint roller nightmare. Looks like two cats beat the crap out of each other. |
Re: 1987 IROC Z Interior Jeez they did a number on the interior, door panels look to be decent though. |
