Steering Wheel Swap

I was wondering if anyone had experience using this steering wheel in a IROC Z or Firebird that can confirm if it's better than the Grant aftermarket steering wheel or the OEM one? I think this is from Chevy Lumina Eurosport

Re: Steering Wheel Swap

I'd say it's better than any aftermarket just because it looks more correct, is likely going to be held to higher quality standards as it was fitted in millions of new cars, and is guaranteed to fit the column without any adapter kits or modifications.

However, unless you have a pre-1990 base model Camaro with what I have always thought was the ugliest steering wheel ever put into a production car (the two spoke one with the small rectangle horn button), I'd recommend staying with whichever steering wheel your car came with from the factory. They were pretty good looking other than the one I just mentioned. Only reason I'd replace any of the other wheels would be if it were leather and in poor condition (as in half ripped off the steering wheel like my '91 T/A was when I first got it). I ended up just buying a used non-leather 1984-87 Firebird steering wheel for that car, and it looks great.

I’d never thought of those, but it sounds like it would be nice..

I’d be tempted to replace the Grant wheel in my IROC with one of those.

I have never seen any wheel on an Iroc, .....stock or aftermarket, ....quality or crap, ....that looks better than an Iroc wheel. That is just my opinion.

Re: Steering Wheel Swap

I see this thread is a couple months old. Steering wheel on my 87 IROC was in rough shape. Leather torn and horn button broken and sitting crooked. Pulled the wheel out of a lumina euro at the junkyard for less than $20. I’d much rather have the original steering wheel, but my opinion is it’s a decent replacement, even if only temporary. Just gonna throw a cover on to hide some of the sun damage along the top
