ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM pics for those would think about buying the aftermarket plastic abs headliner for hard top, couldn't find many after pics on here except for one guy in car after install but he didnt have the A-pillars on to show how bad it is basically the abs headliners (think there all the same) i bought mine from rock auto 170 shipped arent long enough, besides the fact that they are much heavier, the shape isnt correct, and has the bar down the middle i was on the classifieds a bout a week ago looking for a original one but was finally able to get my hands on one from a junk yard for 40 bucks gonna reinforce it and recover it along with deleting the sun visors and dome light holes before i sell, return, or throw out the new abs headliner i thought id take some pics now that i have the two together keep in mind that i also modified the abs board by un glueing the fabric on the front two corners and reglueing it down in a different position to make it a bit wider to hide the gap shown in last 2 pics https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...8f9ffd5a8a.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...b63bd857eb.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...b6e2661eed.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...5b2d789843.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...604509cf78.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...5fdc103978.jpg |

Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM last 2 pics show how i modified the abs board by reglueing the front coners a little wider first few show original under and over the abs headliner |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM I had this issue on the abs one i bought from hawks. it was at least an inch short all the way around |

Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Just purchased an ABS t-top headliner and did a test fit, .75" short. As this is ABS they can be modified, and I am in the process of doing that. The t-top version is much easier to do that with as the lengthening can be done at the point where there is the least amount of stress on it, except for the length it was a good fit. There are certainly advantages to the ABS, the edge strength and durability otherwise. I will do an exact weight comparison and post the results. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM These ABS Headliners have been around for quite a while. Many have been sold over the years and people have been complaining about the fit and how they are short. I have yet to read a good review on ANY of them. You would think by now, the people buying these, and the venders making them, could get together and get the fit correct. A lot of money is spent on these and they ought to be right. Are people just saying....Awe, that's good enough? I think not. The vendors need to know there is an issue. |

Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Sounds like the feeling is mutual, I like how you think. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM When I re-did my headliner years ago I looked at the factory backing board and went... this is just compressed glass fiber or something similar... SO I put fiberglass resin on it to stiffen it up, then 3m spray adhesive. Other than getting my corners a little too tight it looks good still. I think I did that in 2003 ish? |

That was like two years ago and I'm still waiting. :blah::blah::blah: The bottom line is, the parts don't have to suck. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM I have repeated this several times here, gotten into arguments over it with other members, but I will say it again. Save your original headliner board. A little fiberglass and resin will fix it up. If it is too far gone find another. Mine was a mess and I repaired it, and had it recovered and it is good as new, maybe a little stronger. |

Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...120d476b67.jpg Well I weighed them today, the stocker is 2 pounds and the ABS is 3.... |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM I'd do a little victory dance and proclaim another victory for the stock piece. But in reality, you will almost certainly have to reinforce the stock one, which will add weight. Probably ends up as about a wash, I would think. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Yes I'd hoped to use the stock one, had a perfect one, but had it out of the car and a corner of it got crushed under a shop cart. Too much damage to repair so will use the hard one until I can find a good stocker. The weight is so close, and they weigh so little overall anyway.... |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Yawn! |

Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Wow. That's pretty bad. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM Sub-optimal. |
Re: ABS HARDTOP HEADLINER VS OEM I did the ABS in mine, the material failed due to bad prep within 6 month, had to take it to an upholster and have it recovered. |
