Dashboard Vibrating Noise Hello to all Thirdgen enthusiasts! As my first post, I want to ask about something that has been bugging since the first day that I owned my F-bird. There is a rattling sound near the center of the dashboard every time I drive my car. I have no idea what causes it nor how to fix it. Has anyone ever had this problem? Any advice? I bought my 1992 Firebird in mid 2005. It still needs plenty of maintenance. I wish I were a mechanic. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise Yeah bud, no idea what is rattling on your 32 year old car. My advice is start looking for what is rattling. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise Rattling is a standard feature in most every 4rd gen. Removing the dash pad and driving it might help determine the source. Thats where id start. |

Facebook Post Facebook Post You don't need to be a mechanic to find your rattle. You need to be a detective. You might need to be a mechanic to fix the rattle. For us to figure it out for you with absolutely nothing to go on we would have to be mind readers and magic. Note: My reply is mainly sarcasm and I'm pretending you posted this on April Fool's Day for the LOLz. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise I bought some felt tape on Amazon and put it pretty much everywhere in the dash where plastic touches plastic (if possible). Also where the steering column rubs against the plastic, and where the dash pad rubs against the A-pillar trim. It did help somewhat. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise In that case, never mind. I was hoping someone out there had a similar issue and an easy fix. I am beginning to think that maybe those A/C vents might be the problem, though I am only guessing. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise You can almost point at a spot on these cars and you will most likely find a squeak/rattle/groan or some other noise. Sometimes the cause is under the hood or from the suspension that transfers into the interior. Different causes can reveal themselves at the same spot inside the car. Basically what i'm saying, is its kinda hard to tell you what's causing the issue or where its coming from. As mentioned you gotta play detective somewhat. The usual suspects are loose/missing screws, broken/cracked plastic joints, various parts rubbing/vibrating together and other things i cant think of right now. You just gotta put your nose to the grind stone and find/fix or just live with it. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise Thank you everyone for all of your input. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise You could try taking the cardboard tube at the center of a roll of paper towels and holding it to your ear and pointing it around to where you think the noise is coming from and seeing if you can pinpoint the source of the rattle. Of course only do this while you have a friend driving the car around. |
Re: Dashboard Vibrating Noise Don't rule out the windows either. My car is dead quiet with them down but rattle city when they're up. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the guides not being adjusted correctly but I'm waiting till I get new door cards and top rails to take it all apart and fix it. |
