Z06 at a dealership
 
there was a Z06 at a local dealership here.. it was already sold to someone but it was sitting in the back.. black on black.. sticker price was 70,147$...

dealer mark up.. put it to 101,900!!!!!!

you gotta be kidding me right????

i am a GM employee and i was talking to the sales manager about pricing, and to date GM is not going to offer employee discounts on this car.. i can see why so im not crying.. but they did on the old Z06

i sure hope dealerships dont do what they did to the GTO by marking up everything and making buyers turn off from buying a product, just because dealerships are greedy. thats one thing GM needs to do.. stop dealer mark ups.. and if they do, pull their tag from selling certain vehicles..

I agree with you, the dealer markup is just "price gouging" and I hope that many people decide not to but the vette until the price returns to normal

How is this so wrong?? They are not "price gouging" at all. The dealer is not raising the price the customers are by offering more and more. There are plenty of people willing to pay that. Their are a lot of people waiting on dealer lists to buy this car. Whoever pays the most gets it, that's how life and business works.

If you are selling your car and two people keep bidding the price higher then what you are asking for it you are not going to be say "no that's wrong, I have to sell it to the person who wants to pay less". Come on people.

Some dealers still have 2004 GTO's on there lots because they can't sell them. They didn't mark up the price. You could buy a 2004 GTO for $4000 under MSRP, they were selling so bad.

The 2005 GTO is selling much better but it is not marked up, you can still buy them under MSRP.

the reason they WERE selling bad is because right when they 1st appeared.. there was a 5-7k mark up... word got out fast.. i used to work for GM so i heard it left and right... not only that.. but i went to about 6 dealerships in my area and ALL.. not a few.. EVER ONE OF THEM was marked up.. now when december of that year rolled around.. the car mags were ripping them a new one because of the weight and power and styling.. and saying its not worth it.. Hence the "revamped" 2005 GTO with a better power plant and sport package..

and yes.. now you're right.. you can still find 04's out there now, and NOW they are even cheaper because of the 05.. my friend who worked with me at GM could only get an 04(this is when they 1st came out) for 2k OVER sticker at the time.. he bought a yellow one.

Yes but there is a difference between a dealer mark up, and an auction. the dealer should add a reasonable amount of mark up ( after all that is where their profit comes from) and then sell their avalible stock to the people on the list on a first come first served basis.other wise it's an auction ,compare it to gas stations "gouging" people for $5-8.00 per gallon for gas during an emergency like the recent hurricanes,when a week before you could have bought it for $2.19. there's a ethical line somewhere between good business and taking advantage of your customer base.

Gas is a necessity, a Z06 corvette is not

I understand the whole deal with in emergency situation how you shouldn’t “price gouge” on water, food, and gas. When the demand goes up and the supply can not keep up for daily necessities, like food, water, etc it’s wrong to raise the price.

A Z06 corvette is not something you need to survive, it’s purely for recreation and fun. You don’t buy a Z06 as your only car and as something you need to have to get to work everyday to support yourself and pay your bills. The Z06 is a toy for people with a lot of money and is priced at that. Dealers can charge whatever they want for it and should do so. If they ask too much no one will buy it and they will have to lower the price. How is this so wrong? Dealers are a business and they are trying to maximize profit just like every other business. Why would they sell some for less then they can make off it??

So if you own a car dealer and you can sell a high end sports car for more then the MSRP your saying you wouldn’t?? Well you would not be a very successful business man then.

dont need gas either... its not a necessity... people can get around just fine on bikes or walking.. its our lazy asses that says we NEED our cars.. 70% of people in the US work less than 15 miles from home.. thats not that far on a bike.. i used to bike to work all the time.


So if you own a car dealer and you can sell a high end sports car for more then the MSRP your saying you wouldn’t?? Well you would not be a very successful business man then.
A smart business man wants to RETAIN clients.. not charge the hell out of them and they dont come back because you are over priced..

there are dealerships that dont mark up cars.. and funny enough those are the ones that STAY in business by simple word of mouth and customer satisfaction. heres an example..

my father wanted to buy a XLR when they 1st came out.. every dealership we went to marked them up 9-12k over sticker, and alot of them had at least 2-5 sitting on the lot.. we found only 1 dealership in Costa Mesa CA .. their policy was NOT to mark up cars.. why you ask?? because of their handling of people and not over charging simply because they can... thats smart business.. keeping your volume moving and SELLING cars.. rather than make a quick buck on 1 or 2 cars...
to date.. my parents have gone back and bought 2 other caddies from them, because of their value of clients rather than the almighty $.

I'm astounded that dealers can get away with marking up prices like that. Things must be different in Canada. Around where I live, cars will not sell if they're listed as high as sticker price. The standard selling point given a bit of negotiating is almost always below MSRP and incentives are always expected (i.e. 'free' sunroof). I'm from a pretty small town though and I guess repeat business is very important. My parents live across the road from a Chevy dealership and have purchased many cars from them in the last 8 years...I guess the dealer's pricing philosphy works pretty well. The dealership was also happy to offer my dad the GM supplier discount on an '06 Z06 (which put it right around $80 000 Canadian...list price in Canada is $89 900).

I would buy one or the MSRP however there are too few of them and too much demand. Hence the markup. Unlike the GTO the Z06 has surpassed everyones expectations in terms of performance and bang for the buck. Eventually the price will come back down once there are more of them around. I have already seen mark up on the 07 cobra as well. Just as all of us would like to get top dollar when we sell our cars essenntially a dealer does the same thing.

U know.

I see a lot of retards complain about dealers marking up prices on cars. I'm not saying it is right, but that whole demand vs. availability can be a witch sometimes .

A little finger work and u can fix all that before u ever walk into a dealership.

Its called the GM website.

Than after that do a search for local dealers in your area and you will get the lowest "price" they can sell u a car for online.

Alos many available places to find dealer costs and other hidden sales incentives that you can further use to hammer down the price

Had 6 local dealers within 24 hrs respond with offers on a new 04 GTO and the worst was 2k under sticker and the best was nearly 4k under and this was when they were first available.

So dont whine about markups, do some research first.

That is enough on that rant.

Some cars will have gouging on them regardless. The first on the block "new" Z06 Vette will be one period. Like the original Viper and the GNX before it :-)

Oh yes, one more thing, u have to be an idiot, and i mean idiot to buy a first year model from any manufacturer lol. I mean come on:-) I was ragging and pricing 04's cause I wanted to make sur eI liked it so i could snag an 05 for they came out.
