Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Damn, they are expensive. Any ideas on the cheapest? Website? Doesn't have to be OEM. I'm in Socal and local auto parts places are a bust. Plenty of 3.8 V6 F body pump pulleys, but the 5.7's are not to be found. Its for an LS1 F body Power Steering Pump Pulley. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Rock auto? |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Nope. They don't list one. You can find the 98-02 "V6" pulley, but not the LS1 pulley. :( |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? 12559885 -- double check that but it looks like its about $45 with shipping on the world's largest bookstore. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Scavenged the steel pulley from your 3rd gen FWIW, early 2000s cadillacs used the same plastic pulley |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Great call on Amazon. Didn't even think of that. Cheapest so far. A 3rd gen pulley, really? Well, mines long gone with the motor, but it was a V-Belt (1987 5.7) anyhow, so I'm guessing serp belt. version? Just looked up Autozone. $14.99. Nice. 1988-92 5.7 TPI Power Ster. Pump Pulley. That will work?? |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? or use the pontiac montana 3.4l power steering pulley. it has windows in it that make getting to the ps bracket bolts much easier. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? What? I just looked it up on my autozone app. $14 for the Pontiac Montana Pulley. Love those holes for access too. So why is the “LS” pulley $40+ if there’s alternatives that fit? I’m confused. I love this cheat and I’ll give it a shot. Even the TPI 1989-92 “pulley” is under $20.00, just no holes. We need to make a sticky of all these little cheats. I know there’s more. This is something off the beatn’ path, you know? |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? 2 Attachment(s) Looks good to me! $14 at Pep Boys for a 1989/92 TPI Firebird. You cant even get the LS 1998/02 in stock. Amazing. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? The Montana (2002 year 3.4V6) one seemed too small. The circumference was way too small. I'd probably need a really smaller belt. Guy at parts counter warned it would spin the pump too fast since it was too small. Very happy with the help from you guys. We'll give this pulley a shot. Great LS Hack. :) |

i've been running the 3.4l montana pulley for 3 years with no problems, it has seen 7k rpm on more than one occasion. to each his own. I'm just nervous and can only afford to do this job and swap once. I'm way over budget and out of time. |

Hells yeah. Nice. Meant no disrespect. One's own experience is better then the recommendation of a 17 year old at the pep boys counter. LOL. Heck, I may go back and swap it out because I like the windows. The metal one is soooo much heavier then the plastic one. AND if you've had no problem with the belt tensioner slack and all, that's cool. I'm just nervous and can only afford to do this job and swap once. I'm way over budget and out of time. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? I used the Montana pulley... Worst part of that was getting the right belt length, but that only took one attempt. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Umm, so yeah. Fast forward to now. What is the belt length? I got a standard "LS1" belt and its too small. Any help would be great. I got the montana power steering pump pulley. Looks great and is smaller. Belt slips. I can literally slide it on and off w/o any problem. :( |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Not an answer to your question, but perhaps useful to other people in the future. The LS1 pulley is plastic.... and yes, it gets damaged and breaks. The LS2 pulley is metal and has spokes for easier access to front of power steering pump. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Fail on my part. Belt is too big. Its loose. I can slide it on and off w/o even messing with the tensioner. Yeah, I love the slotted / spoke'd pulley. Looks great. The LS1 looks like this big huge dish. Anyone have a belt # of the correct belt or one that's about 1 inch shorter then OEM 5.7 LS1? |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? You may need to measure with a string around the pulleys and them measure the string in MM then find the correct belt. Make sure you have the tensioner in "middle" of it's range when you measure. Serp belts, the last 4 digits are usually the length of the belt, should be able to go to a legit parts store, or search on Rock Auto for the correct length. Most parts guys are just going to ask you the application |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Im using that montana pulley w/ a 770K6 (6pk1955) belt, working great so far.Thats 77in, 6 rib.Stock pulleys elsewhere. |
Re: Part # and cheapest place for a Power Steering Pump Pulley?? Ahh. You are awesome 84 1LE! I'll order that part # and hopefully be set! Thanks for the help. |
