Doing a LS1 Swap in my 1984 Camaro.
 

Hey guys I am a little new to working on cars and need some help I have a few buddies who have got me going in the right direction but have completely dropped off. I have most of the tools i could need or easy access to ones a may need.

So I know I want to do an LS1 swap in my 1984 Camaro Berlinetta v6 I know I want to put a cam in it. but that is as far as I can get I am in the process of also restoring the interior and exterior i know what I am doing with that but under the hood is where i need the most help. if there are any suggestions that would help.

Starting with a vague idea isn't the path to success. Do you have the skills, tools, and experience to do a stock 350? If not, then a cammed LSx is probably too big of a leap.
Why a cam, anyway? Idle sound? Bragging rights? An LSx swap is challenging enough even without a cam change, get it running right with a stock cam before worrying about which bumpstick to spend $ 400 on. But that $400 becomes more than $1000 by the time you get pushrods, valvesprings, and a dyno-tune. That's more than I had to spend to do my 4.8 swap.
Anyway, figure out your goals for the project, realize a T56 will add $1500 to the cost, and if you do end up with a cammed LSx, plan on a big brake upgrade and some wheels to match, because 12" discs can't fit inside 14" wheels, let alone 13" discs.

Let me join in welcoming you to TGO.
Beyond that, I'll jump in with Cosmick…..great idea, and project, but not for the uninitiated.
+Cam swap is not that hard, but not easy….sweet engines to work on. Leave it to later, you will have more than enough just getting everything together, AND working.
+Pre '85s have some of their own little things going on that got changed. Generally only the folks with the older cars are up on it…NOT the aftermarket suppliers. Chasing things down takes experience, and time.
+You are going from a V-6 to a V-8. Bound to be some mysteries lurking in there (five7 has done it, so that's a source).
+Good luck and, if you go ahead, don't lose heart. The result will be sweet- even if it takes 2-3 times as long and 4 times the green you were thinking.
