Thirdgen fuel pump in 4th gen tank? Swapping to 4th gen tank. I have a 255lph in my thirdgen metal tank now. Can i use the same pump in the 4th gen tank? Or do i need to buy a different one. They look very similar, im slighty positive it will be fine. Just wanted to ask incase someone has already been down this route. Thanks. |
Re: Thirdgen fuel pump in 4th gen tank? What year 4th gen tank? That makes a big difference. I am not familiar with the LT tanks, but you can't use it in the LS, plastic, tanks |
Re: Thirdgen fuel pump in 4th gen tank? You can make just about any walbro 255 style pump fit the ls plastic style tanks. The pumps may have different filter locations which may require drilling bottom of bucket. |

So dont say it cant fit when it can plus i have no had noticeable issues when i had dual walbros in the bucket with the bottom sides drilled. It still picked up low fuel fine. Road handling on street but never road raced tested. And thats without venturi |
Re: Thirdgen fuel pump in 4th gen tank? You should use a fuel bucket designed for the 4th gen plastic tank. You can change the fuel pump in certain situations such as the Racetronix upgrade. The fuel pump has to fit the bucket, and the wiring has to integrate with the plug at the top of the fuel bucket. You can't splice wires inside the tank. Re: Thirdgen fuel pump in 4th gen tank? Yes, but I had to replace the fuel bucket assembly (long story). They’re not cheap. I bought another used one, but the pump was faulty. Then bought a new Delphi fuel bucket that was made for an 02 Z28. The fuel level sensor on that bucket mounted sideways and was incompatibility with the Grand Prix sensor mount. On each attempt, there was something that wasn’t compatible. I couldn’t take the pump from the Delphi and put it in the fuel bucket that worked with the Grand Prix sensor. Bottom line - Use stock fuel bucket assembly with Grand Prix sensor. Even with that, there is a little bit of a challenge with attaching the Grand Prix sensor to the top plug of the fuel bucket. |
