88' Iroc

I had an 89' RS before and liked that car alot. Then, went to a Blazer which worked well, but I do miss these cars very much. Spent the better part of 2010 looking for a clean Iroc. I was really picky in that I didn't want someone's disaster. I was also really concerned when I saw a ton of overpriced cars. Some people have really high opinions of their rustbuckets :)

So fast forward a bit....

My boss goes down to Deerfield Beach to visit family and was going to take a trip to see a car in Hialeah for me. My boss used to build race cars and race short track and he is my dedicated mechanic. I'm his families' PC Tech. Its a good trade off even though I think I get the better end of things.

The car he went to look at fell through cause the owner balked at even meeting with him, but a new car was found. Even though it needed slight body work, the car was owned by a friend who owns a raceteam in S.Florida who he has bought cars cheap from before. A few weeks passed and still finding junk or overpriced cars, we ended up getting that car.

He wanted $2200, then $1800, then settled on $1500. It was the old man's car, bought original. Then he died and his son got it. Didn't keep up the outside as the old man did, and the paint kinda crapped out.

It has about 100k, a 350, T-Tops, positraction (2.77) , stiffer suspension option, alum drive shaft, disc brakes, leather wrapped steering wheel ( oohhhhh ahhh ), and the Bose Stereo. Best of all its all stock. Not even headers or exahust have been added. Its all there. Well, minus one badge on the left side..

The bad is that I have to get it painted and we have to take care of 2 small rust spots by the TTops and pull the panel straight behind the front left wheel. The best part of this deal is that full coverage car insurance for me is going to be about $400 a year :lmao:

Its not perfect, but getting a car from someone you know is a good thing.

I like this, I can't tell, is the car orange or maroon? My 88 5.7 is orange. If it's orange it is the only year they did it on a third gen, and pretty rare color to find. Mine has the Bose system too, with the two speakers in the hatch... they still sound good :P I have them hooked up with some new pioneers and a 10inch sub in the rear....

Its the maroonish dark red color. I'm more of a red or black guy when it comes to these cars. Blue is even OK but thats about it. I'd never drive an orange car.

So you have the Bose speakers and then Pioneer speakers and then the sub?

I have the same year car as you do with the 350 TPI. In fact my car is the same color as your car is. Very good deal and I think you found a good car to have. Keep us posted.

Also, if you're like me at all you'll find yourself taking pictures of the car alot over the course of owning it. That helps for certain jobs too.

Update #1:

Finally got the car home last Sunday and is sitting up at my Boss' house until its registered and stuff. Went yesterday and started to work on some cleaning, mainly the floors and hatch. Folex and a small shop-vac and it took car of the coffee stains all over the floor pretty well. Still need to find a GOOD shampoo to use so if anyone has recommendation I'd appreciate it.

Also found out that the water in the hatch pit turned out to be be some sort of oil spilled. Good news is that the seal is still good there but that carpet is probably shot. Any recommendations on cleaning that? I don't want to cut it out and replace it if I don't have to.

The dash pad is in great shape and is original. Only crack is the plate around the gear selector which I'll have to replace. The steering wheel wrap is coming off a bit but will re-glue that down.

Took the car out for a quick ride a bit up the road and it hauls behindus. I'm 6'5 and I had plenty of leg room, even more-so than I had in my 89' RS. Pretty comfortable ride too for two bald back tires :driving:

I was told it was factory exhaust but it appears to be after market. It has an awful drone to it. I didn't bother to find out what yet, but its just annoying as anything. That, and the pipes are tucked up under the body and bend downwards. While stationary, the exhaust seems to collect up under there. Gotta fix that.

I doubt that is a factory setup.

This is just a right side shot and one of the interior thats still wet.
