looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? i guess i can start from the start, about 2 years ago when i was 14 i started to eyeball cars that i could fix up, use to be a major mustang fan but after walking down my ally one day i saw a burgandy 88 camaro sports coupe sitting in a driveway of this guys house down the ally from me. well a month or 2 went by and i keep eyeballing it and finally i saw the guy out one day and decided to talk to him about it and see if he wanted to sell it. turned out he didnt as he had plans for it. well i went on to get my 90 rs as my first car then my 86 witch is my current car as im 16. well it turns out that the guy down the ally would soon become my best friend that got me started into thirdgens. well anyways back on track. ever since i saw the 88 i wanted it. time went by after we talked about his plans and he finally went through with them. originally the car had a 305 tpi automatic. well we ended up putting a 350 in from a 94 lt1 along with all the suspention, new suspention all the way around along with the rear end and he had the trans rebuilt by GM. the 350 was completely torn apart, cleaned, and rebuilt, aluminum heads, its got a csi electric waterpump, ac deleted, computer reprogrammed ect. he even installed the 94s seats. its got sidepipes on it now and thats all i can think of right now. anyways hes put it up for sale and i wanna get it. he wants $3000 for it, is this a good price for a nice healthy running camaro? its going to need paint and interior work, and i will get the exhaust redone as the pipes drag on everything so is it worth it? i know hes also got 98 corvette wagon wheels on it with new tires and new brakes all the way around. if i can find the whole list of all the upgrades i will, along with the pictures. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? 47 views and nada?? Lol well anyways I forgot to add that the car also has less than 200 miles on it since all this was done |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? No one?? |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? i personally think its a good deal as long as it was done nicely not hacked up. it would be alot easier to tell if we had pictures of everything. we cant really say too much without seeing it though |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Yeah it sounds like a good deal but some pictures of his work would help alot. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? $3000 sounds good for a LT1 swapped 88. Hell thats what I have in my lt1 alone in my 86. Pictures would be nice. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Okay. I'll ask him if I can take pictures this weekend as I want to talk to him about buying it on payments since I'll just be starting my job here soon and won't have the whole amount up front |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? nobody takes payments..... |

Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Between the paint and the interior there is one more thing I know I need which is something to Push that rear end down, when you get into it, it wants to start wheel hopping and it really scares the **** outta you. That and I would replace the waterpump because he has an electric waterpump on it and I don't like it |

Haha. that. sounds. freaking. AEWSOME!!!! When it comes to weighing down the rearend make sure you try and move as much weight around as possible instead of adding weight (try moving battery to trunk). Don't add weight unless you have to. |

Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? 3 Attachment(s) here are some pictures of the car, only things different now are the hood is in primer and its got the 18 inch corvette wagon wheels on it now, the rims in the picture are on my car now :D |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? 3 Attachment(s) first ones a picture of the rear end i guess, these are pictures he took during the build or before it. the last 2 are pictures of the car, hes got eldabrok headers on it that i forgot to mention and its a 4 bolt main. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? also on the last engine pic, all those wires are around because he retained the 4th gen computer and the fuel injection. like i said this lt1s out of a 94 camaro, same as all the suspention |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Its not a 4 bolt main. Only LT1 Vettes came with 4 bolt mains LT1s. Fbodys got 2 bolts. Unless he had the shop/himself convert it.. I wouldnt pay more than $3000... |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? That doesnt look like a sport coupe either. Looks like an 89 RS. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? It's an 88, iv seen the title and unless 88 had an rs it's gotta be a sports coupe, all the badging says is camaro. And he has the shop convert it to a 4 bolt. He tried it himself but was having problems so when he had the block honed, cleaned, and I believe bored he had it converted. He has some pictures of the engine during the build if you guys wanna see them |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? That is an 88 Sport Coupe with the regular spoiler. The shorty spoiler was only a short term item. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Dude, that's an awesome car. Love those Edlebrock headers. But yah, don't pay for than $3000. And if he is your best friend, make sure you can actually afford to buy it. Make sure you can afford to keep it as well, cause If you are thinking of making payments something tells me you cant afford it. Just my two cents. |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? I'm just starting out on a job so I don't have any money put back. That's the only reason for me making payments |
Re: looking at getting an 88 sports coupe,is it worth it? Just wait a little while. If he is really your friend he'll wait. Heck, juist give hime a ley away payment as a sign of good faith and then save up. |
