Craigslist finds, good and bad

I am everyday scouring craigslist for killer deals for 3rd gens, maybe its just me and please school me if I'm wrong but prices have gone threw the
roof. I don't mind paying for good parts but wow. Anyway please chime in.http://delaware.craigslist.org/pts/3961663185.html

Ok I just put my foot in my mouth on that link for the rear. Heading says $800 but the body says $250 sounds more like it.

I saw that one yesterday for $800 too. I think they changed it today.

coming soon, to a trailer park near you...
http://easternshore.craigslist.org/cto/3901948400.html

This one sat in a front yard, within walking distance of my house...since I moved here. At least 6 years, this car has never moved. Made its first Craigs appearance about 3 years ago, for $3K. Looks like it finally sold, and they are so proud, they did not delete the posting. They put "SOLD" in the title. They should have taken a picture of the screwed-in cowl hood, might have sold faster.

So you would rather watch a straight Third Gen sit and rot for 6 years than resurrect it? If they had it for $1000, you shoulda been able to pick it up for $7-800. Id pick up a straight bodied shell with interior for 800... Cars deserve second chances too!

Then, by all means, start collecting! :lmao: Some people are keen on multiple cars on blocks in backyards, engines hanging from tree's, and large piles of tires laying in the woods. I'm not that kind of person. But I won't judge you.

So you would rather get perfect cars and have people give them to you for free. Best of luck with that.

I really like this Firebird. When I was in High School in the early 90's, these things were everywhere. I used to hate those wheel covers. But seeing it now really brings back memories. But I agree with you on the price, I think it is about double what it should be.

Thought this one was interesting and maybe a great candidate for a DD. Ad started at $5,000; then went down to $4,800 and now to $4,500. I haven't seen the car in person and from the pics it looks all original, nice and straight. But they're asking way too much.

So how many miles are on the top one?? Is that 1,000 - 10,000 - 100,00 or what? I've never seen a car worth $10,000 sitting in the backyard being overcome by weeds especially when it was being sold. I love some of these CraigsList ads that say perfect condition except for this, that, and oh by the way, other things. most have poor pictures and little to no information....Ok back to topic, I'm over my rant!

I just couldnt resist responding to it with this:

"Thanks for posting that ad. I really needed a good laugh. You may want to remove some of the silliness like " will fit any sports car or truck" (only will fit 93-2002 camaro), "Will increase horsepower" (Seriously?!!??! How?), "will increase speed" (only if you other hood was a parachute) Place a truthful ad and maybe someone will take you seriously and buy it."
The guy didn't take my constructive criticism too well:lmao:

Not an Iroc with those wheels. Garage kept? Just for grins, I google mapped the address. It doesnt even have a garage. It does however have big oil spots in the driveway. It says never in an accident or taken apart. Gap on the front of the drivers door looks bigger than the pic in '88. Owned by a little old lady, probably only driven to church on Sundays.

Scroll threw the bullshit, and you will come across some damn good deals. Be ready to travel to pick it up most of the time it's 2-300 miles away. If you tell them your going that far you can buy with cash for about 500-1000$ off asking price. Works 80% of the time.

jharrison5 09-28-2013 07:30 PM

Re: Craigslist finds, good and bad

If I come across a true deal I will buy it just so it doesn't go to the junk yard. My current project is a no rust '87 IROC manual roller with the bose system. I paid $750. Some of the 3rd gens around here are going for top dollar, but they are rust free and that is rare in my neck of the woods.

Case in point I had a numbers matching 5.7 TPI '88 GTA with an auto trans that I sold to a guy four years ago. This is a fairly rare and desirable car that is now sitting in the local U-Pull It lot and they won't sell it back to me.

I've found that generally, people who are talked down 50% off their asking price, have inflated their asking price by 70%. There are occasional deals to be had, but wow, gotta scour the ad's several times a day and pounce immediately.

I just bought this car today. The guy had been posting it for a few days. He started out at $2800. I got it a week and a half later at $900. It's the 5.7 Z28. It has dual exhaust coming out the sides near the rear tires and hooker headers. The interior was pretty straight too. It needs a new stereo system, dash gauge cluster, and I'm sure sure a few other things. The guy's wife was crawling down hs neck wanting him to sel it. I happily helped her out with that ;). I think I got a steal even with the issues.

Here's another pic of it
