Seperate Autocross and Drag Racing Sections
 

as the title says, i think these should be in 2 different sections and the autocross section should be "autocross/drifting" and "drag racing".

would make it easier so people to navigate and not have to sift through..

I moved your post here so those who use this section can comment their opinion of the suggestion as it would impact them.

Is this a change that is needed and beneficial to those who use this section?

Add a Poll so that we can easily vote & everyone actually see the Publics opinion on the matter.

I'll vote YES, SEPARATE DRAG RACING & AUTOCROSS SECTIONS when the Poll is added.

I beleive it is sir..i find it very difficult at times with threads like "is my car setup right for the track?" or "how will my car do at the track?" what track? would be better to just know that, hey its in the auto-x section, its gotta be auto-x related :D

I suggested this a long time ago. I don't remember the exact reason given not to do it. I vote yes.

it is a bit tiring wading through drag racing post looking for autox post. nothing wrong with drag racing but the two just dont mesh together.

Agreed, I like both forms of racing, but as far as compartmentalization goes, they shouldn't be grouped together. The one and only reason? Ease of use and navigation by members.

Just a section for racing: Drag, auto-x, open road. Drifting aint racing.

I agree. Racing has a start and finish line. If I want to see a compitition on beauty and style, it better be a woman and she better be wearing a bikini.:lmao:

Any type or road coarse/track racing should be separate from drag racing. The two are completely different animals.

That is one way to get less people to see this question/Poll. People tend to ignore the Stickies & go straight to the standard Threads, or else they wouldn't keep asking questions which are answered for them in the Stickies. How many times do we see people post an answer of "Read the Sticky"? Very often, is the answer.

I cant think of a reason to have both styles of racing in 1 section but this section is dominated by drag racing guys anyway so its nice to have it separated.

It wouldn't need to be separate if every post subject line that was NOT about drags started with "auto-x". No work for mods but would still be nicer if separate.

Personally i come to this section more than any other section, as i am building a drag car and am interested to see how other guys here do things. There's nothing worse than seeing a thread you thought would be very interesting about someones setup to findout its about auto cross. Dont get me wrong, i think its a fun type of racing, but not what im looking for. So i vote, yes.

I requested this a *long* time ago (though the need was not really there back in 04). Personally, I'd suggest sections for:

Autocross/Gymkahna
Track Day/Time Trials/Road Racing (SCCA, NASA, EMRA, etc.)
Drifting/Freestyle competition
Drag Racing

Perhaps the first three could be one section with the 3 subsections under it... Each area is different enough that there should be no real overlap or cross-posting issues. Thoughts?

Nice for the rest of us but think of all the extra work for the mods!! If posters would tag the subject line it would help a lot.

that sounds great :thumbsup: thatd be a really easy way to get exactly what we want to see..

assign new mods to the new sections..people are avid in the section or the sport :)

I guess by those thoughts.....We could just drop ALL the different sections & put titles in the Subject lines. V6/V8/TBI/TPI/Engine/Suspension/Wanted/For Sale....etc. etc. etc.

Not at all. The discussion is about whether the benefit is worth the effort to split one existing forum. I suggested this some time ago and at least one mod at the time said it wasn't worth the effort. So, if the benefit and demand are now higher, it may now be worth the effort. But how many extra forums? Tagging the subject line would make it easier with the current set up.

This section is dominated by drag racers because primarily it is more popular form of racing.

Ive always thought it would make things much easier if there was a section for people who wanna go straight, and another section for people that like turning.

Put simply, this is what the two sections should be called:

"Drag Racing"
"AutoX, Road racing, drifting"

My issue is, if we are making separate sections, why not break out the other forms into their own separate sections, or at least subsections.

Car preparation and issues for low-speed handling events (autocross) are very different from high speed events (track days, time trials, road racing), and both of those are VERY different than "stylized driving" (drifting). We may even want a section for circle track, as some of the local tracks around here run "stock" or "street" classes...

Sure, I'd be happy with a simple drag racing or other racing split, but if they're going to configure it, why not take it to the next step? We've got lots of other sections that overlap even more than any of these would...

I geuss if I had to pick, it would be to seperate. I really dont think its a big deal. I enjoy all forms of racing, and enjoy seeing how other guys running different motorsports are setting up there cars. There's always tips and tricks that you can get from other forms of racing that will interface with the type that you enjoy.

While I agree in principle, I just don't think the volume of post supports each having their own subsection. Add up all posts on the roadracing, autox, drifting, rallying, open lapping, open road racing, anything competition to do with turning the steering wheel, and they still won't equal the drag racing posts. I'd be really happy seeing it broken into these two tho!

I dunno, I don't look at it as total numbers, but as a percent. 86% of those that voted were for it. If there was a way to force people into this thead, then I can see total number being important.
