Ran the car tonight

1989 Iroc Z L98 A4 2.77 car

Last year's best:
14.64 @ 94.4 on a 2.25

Tonight:
14.19 @ 96.56 on a 2.0

Changes since last year are shorty headers and a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials.

I am happy to have dropped a consistent .5 on the ET and gain 2-3 mph on all of my passes. I really wanted to run 13's, but I am happy to have gone much faster.

Next up I have a set of 3.27 gears and a 3 series carrier. Any guesses as to the ET/MPH I will pick up switching to those from 2.77s?

ok, so given ideal conditions and proper traction, 96mph is good for 13.8's or so. get it to go 1.88-1.92 to the sixty and it will go 13's. what was the trap rpm? i'm sure you're no where near optimal rpm, so the 3.27's should help do what you need them to.

can you tell me again what converter it has? or is it still stock? if so, have Justin at Transmission Specialties put you together about a 2800 stall and "rock the truck out", lol. bet it goes bottom 13 with that....would be one stealthy little sleeper ;)

congrats on the new times Seth, traction is a wonderful thing, eh?

Re: Ran the car tonight

It has a Summit Racing 2800 lockup converter, honestly it "reacts" like a car that should 1.8 or 1.9 60 ft, but then it just feels under geared in the 60 ft (like it stalls up fine but has to roll out to gain rpm) so I am pretty confident gears will fix that. I am shifting into 3rd probably at the 1000 foot mark and trapping at too low of an rpm. Thanks Matt :)

My full slip:

RT: .020
60: 2.040
330: 5.909
1/8: 9.103
MPH: 77.25
1000: 11.857
1/4: 14.196
MPH: 96.56

I'd do 3.45s but if you already own the 3.27s you'll be fine.

Have you messed with fuel pressure or timing any?

Would expect 1.8's with that setup as is. Was it hooking? How did you launch it

Re: Ran the car tonight

I have the timing at 10* and have not touched fuel pressure. I don't see how this car would 1.8 60' with 2.77 gears as it leaves hard initially off the converter but just seems a little lazy right after the initial hit.

I tried stabbing the throttle and stalling it up and launching, traction was an issue on a few passes for everyone, but I had some solid spin free launches that still resulted in 2.0 60 foot times.

Re: Ran the car tonight

I just know my car went 1.88 and 1.89 on street tires with 2800 and 2.77's. i know its possible, but all cars are different. More gear will help.
