Interesting read, I have always been very careful during burnouts as I am running drag radials and am always worried about blowing up my 9 bolt. Never thought about the motor.

I still wonder why when imports do burn outs that they always are on the limiter the entire time while in the water box.

My burnout rev limiter is set for 6000 rpm. I've bounced off it a couple of times but usually only do a burnout in the low to mid 5000 rpm range. High end rev limiter is set for 7800. Starting line rev limiter is currently set at 4500.

my burnout limit is 5500. i pull out of the water, stop, set the line lock (which activates the 5500 limit), and then mat it. it pretty much immediately hits the limiter, at which point i back off on throttle enough to keep it off the limiter. at the same time i shift it to high gear, count to about 3 or so, and turn off the line lock as i slowly roll off the throttle.

I'd always figured holding against a limiter at any RPM wouldn't be the best thing for an engine. Yet everyone does it.

I hear a lot of bracket racers on the 3 step the whole time in the water at around 5000 rpms. doesn't sound good.
