stock/aftermarket front suspension weight comparison ok here we go: (all numbers are in lbs) stock control arm- 15.5 spohn tubular control arm- 9.5 stock spindle- 13 modified stock spindle- 10 (modified for wildwood brakes and Qa1 coil overs) stock coil Spring- 9 Qa1 coil over spring- 5 stock caliper with pads and backing plate- 9.5 wildwood dynalite caliper with pads- 2 lakewood 90/10 front strut with stock strut mount- 15 Qa1 double adjustable strut with spohn billet strut mount no spring- 13 stock rotor/hub with studs- 18 wildwood vented rotor/hub w/ studs- 12 stock k member- 50 spohn k member- 30 At the end of this project, between parts, dirt, and grease that I changed or removed I am expecting a loss of between 75-85 lbs. A large part of the weight is un sprung so I am pretty happy with the results. I plan on posting a before and after scale when I have all the suspension adjusted in the next couple of weeks. |

Re: stock/aftermarket front suspension weight comparison Is there any specific weights you are looking for when you are scaling your car? People told me to do it but I never really saw a need? |
Re: stock/aftermarket front suspension weight comparison I really just wanted to get an idea of what the car weighed on a professional race scale system(not sure how accurate the dump scale really is). I am sure the top guys use these for bias and such but it was mostly so that I had a before and after for my front swap. It also happens that a good friend of mine has a set of scales. |
stock vs. UMI A-arms 2 Attachment(s) I was swapping front lower control arms (A-arms) around yesterday, and threw them on a scale. Just to add another data point for anyone who's interested: stock: 14.7 lbs each In both cases, that number includes bushings and ball joints. I didn't bother to clean the crud off the stock arms, so they might be a little dirt-heavy.UMI: 12.3 lbs each I guess that's pretty close to UMI's claim of "5 lbs lighter than factory A-arm set." Obviously, these are a bit heavier than your Spohn arms for coil-overs, but I'm running a conventional spring setup. |
