Oil Pan recommendations SBC with stock K member
 

Looking to buy an oil pan for a motor for my Camaro. It's an early LH dipstick block and I'm using a stock K member with solid motor mounts. looking for some real world know it fits recommendations. Many of the pan manufacturers can tell you what motor it fits but not if it fits the chassis. Here's some of the ones I'm looking at.

Has anyone used one of these? Any other suggestions for a good pan for a strictly bracket raced Camaro?

When I had a SBC, I just used a stock pan. Majority of the "car" pans will fit with no problems.

With the BBC, I run a deep pan and adjust the oil level to stay below the crankshaft. Not sure what the capacity of my pan is rated at but I only have 6 quarts in it plus 3 quarts in an accumulator/filter/lines. I also have some modifications to get the oil back into the pan as quick as possible. At the top end of the dragstrip at 7400 rpm, there's isn't a lot of oil still in the pan if it has a hard time getting back into the pan.

Out of all your choices, I'd go with the first or last one in the list.

Has anyone tried the Kevko pans, price is good but how do they fit and how good is the finish? I'm looking for increased capacity along with a scraper and windage tray. I see the Kevko 1070 might work but I really didn't want kickouts as I have a Milodon now with kickouts and it's tight near the filter with full length headers.
My concern on the pans I listed is the length of the sump and the depth of the pan at the front and whether it will clear the K member. I was hoping someone had experience with a pan and a stock K member.
I know a Milodon 30908 will fit and a Canton 13-100 should also work if I want to go back to a kickout style.

for $325 shipped ill send you a brand new in the box canton racing 8QT pan with Melling HV oil pump and Melling oil drive rod with Canton Racing pickup tube installed.and 1piece oil pan gasket.. all pats are brand new pan is set up for oil temp gauge and oil return for a blower or turbo.. pan is alsoset up for screw in oil dipstick..all mods to pan by Canton racing this pan would cost over $400 to make today without the oil pump and pickup..

summit gave me $1000 credit with the bolt on pully parts and a few other bolt on parts..no restocking fee and 0 shipping fees...but ya I still have a butt load of stuff...lol
but iv been dealing with summit from 1982..so we do go way back... :)

I also run a canton made for our cars. it fits great and doesn't hang low.

I use a canton roadrace pan on my 400 block. Standard volume/psi oil pump (the heavy duty early style casting that won't break like the newer weaker ones)

What number pans? Do they have a windage tray and crank scraper? Canton road race pan is for a RH dipstick, not going to work on mine.

They do make RH and LH dipstick locations. They have multiple because of one or two piece rear main seals etc. It does have windage tray and crank scraper. Check out their website.

They make more than 1 sbc oil pan. my 400 block is a 2piece seal with left hand dipstick. Has trapdoors, scraper and screen. checkout their website, good stuff.

My only problem with the Canton pan I have was that it's a 6 qt pan, an approximate 1 qt filter and I was losing pressure on a steady, moderate, straight line acceleration. The final fix was to run 5.5 qts, which is ok except that I should be able to run 7 qts. However, it fits the car with stock K-member and Doug's LT headers just fine.

I believe it is a 13080T, and it looks like I'm not the only one that has experienced issues with this pan or the manufacturer.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt in most situations, so I'll add that I bought this pan several years ago and maybe newer pan builds/designs are better, maybe.

Is this the pan you have? Is the sump straight on the sides like this? How long front to back is the sump and how close is it to the K member? I believe Canton says this pan is 9 1/2 inches long at the bottom of the sump.
As far as oil pan capacities go I find that most manufacturers don't have a clue. My Milodon says 7 plus the filter. I install the dipstick before I install the pan and know where the full mark brings the oil to. If I put 7 qts or more in my pan it would be all over the crank at rest.

I'm sorry, my memory failed me. I have the Canton 13080T, and I see that Summit lists a more accurate 5qt., even though Canton's site still incorrectly lists 6qt. capacity.
I don't have quick access to get measurements today, but there's enough room that with the distributor cap off I can raise the motor enough to remove the oil pan with the engine still in the car. There is no kick out on the pan.

It looks like a lot of those pans are deep at the front. Is there enough clearance between the pan and the stock K member? The factory pans and my Milodon 30900 are tapered at the front to clear the crossmember. How much room is there with the deep front?

i have the jegs pan u listed. went on well and fits good. plenty of room around a stock k member

I appreciate the pics. I was concerned about between the top of the K member and the bottom of the pan with the boxed front like that. It looks like plenty of room. The Jegs pan doesn't give any dimensions. I'm guessing it's the same size as the Summit pan. The sump on the Summit pan is 9 1/2" long by 7 3/4" wide.
B&B makes a 91088 which is 10" long at the sump which I think is getting a little close to the crossmember. Hamburger makes one That's 10 1/2 long at the sump and I don't know if that will fit.

I put my car on the lift but didn't take the diaper off yet. I must have lower motor mounts then others. My centerlink in less than an inch away from the bottm of my pan and I have a Milodon 30900 which uses a stock pan profile at the front for clearance. It's looking more and more like I'll go with the Champ 64LT or the Kevko which use the same stock front profile. My motor is a stock stroke 350 so I'm not concerned with internal clearance.

The 91088 wont fit in a 3rd gen with a stock k-member
The 91087 will fit ( I have it). I use 1 7/8" long tube headers and it fits

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of the 91087? There are no pics on B&B's site or Summit or Jegs. Is the 91087 tapered at the front like a stock pan?

As far as a pan with any windage tray or crank scraper it looks like the B&B 91087 or the Champ CP64LT is about it with the stock frt. style pan.
