6 speed with turbo

TGTA850 mentioned something to me about how auto's are better for turbo applications, bucause boost can drop when you shift. Have any of you driven a car with a turbo and manual tranny? I plan on getting a getting a 6 speed in the neer future, and a turbo or 2 in the distant future. How much will a manual slow me down with a turbo? Is it worth the fun and gas mileage of the 6 speed?

it mostly has to do with keeping the turbo spooled. without load on the engine (especially at take off) there will be no boost. when shifting between gears there will be a drop in turbo RPM's especially if you do not WOT powershift. an auto matic never drop the load and you can load against it before takeoff to build boost also. that is why in a drag application a transbrake turbo car is the $hiz-nit. super charged cars suffer this way too, to some extent.

If you're going for the best drag race time, you can't beat the automatic if you go turbo. The biggest is you can launch off boost, since you can spool it up at the line.

I love having the 6 speed, and wouldn't give it up, even if it does slow me down at the strip. By having a large enough blow off valve, the turbo doesn't slow down too much in between shifts. Since it's on a V8, the turbos are instantly spooled if you're at high rpms anyways, so its really a non-issue. I'm seeing full boost at 2000 rpms with my twin turbos.

Turbo

I would have to totally agree with B4Ctom if you are lookin for best E.T in the 1/4 nothing can beat and auto.

But....

I would have to agree with askulte when it comes to having fun with the 6 Speed.

There is nothing like shifting a 6 speed and hearing the Blow off valve give off a nice "PSssssstttt....." not to mention the great top speed potental of a 6 speed and a Turbo V8.

I loved my T56 in my 85 SC car with the MPFI 355 and the 150 shot, sold her for $6500. I still miss all 2900 lbs of her.
