Powerstroke Turbo?

So after watching a vid of a few guys putting a chevy v6 in a 280 and then slapping a 7.3 powerstroke turbo on it to make about 350 horse and 430 torque, im curious as to how that could work on the larger l03. If a blow through carb replaced the tbi, could it in theory work?

Also, what would some good cheap turbo heads be so that the engine rpm could get a wee bit higher?

These turbos have a larger turbine housing on them but aren't a horrid match for an L03 otherwise. You can get .85 and 1.0 housings, they're a bit pricey but out there. I wanted one of the internal WG .85 housings they used around 2003, as I believe it'll interchange with my 94-97 one and give me the smaller A/R.

At 15 PSI you could make 350+ HP fairly easy I would suspect, although you may need meth injection or some E85/race gas to make that happen. slightly over 400 at the wheels seems common with an HX35/40 hybrid on a 5.0 Ford, so with a bit of cam I wouldn't think that to be an issue with one of these turbos which is dimensionally similar on the compressor.

The real catches with these turbos is that it is a reverse scroll turbo. There's a base and pedestal for these turbos as well, I would grab that because you'll need it to make oil fittings. The biggest thing is if you look at most turbos they go one direction, this one goes the opposing direction. That means you're committed to plumbing. They make some upgrades to a 66, but that's as far as you're going pretty much. Not to say a 66 is bad, Hellion used it as one of their options, and I've known of some fast GNs running 66es. For something to get your L03 pressurized I would consider it a good option since if/when you step the engine up you're probably going to change most of the system anyways.

id skip the ps turbos and just buy an ebay gt45 and run that

I'm inclined to agree overall, but I've got one of em I picked up for the princely sum of 50 bucks, and am probably grabbing another at the yard tomorrow that's 75 It's a van turbo so no warmup valve as well as the bigger non WG turbine so worse comes to worse I can probably offload it on a PSD guy. If you know where there's a steal on one they can be a good deal.

U could use the stock heads with a turbo and still have good low end .. mabey do some sought porting .. just open up the pushrod pinch slightly , clean up the casting lines, and remove the part of the swirl ramp that protrudes into the runners .. the swirl ports ain't as bad as everyone says but they ain't great either ... some stock TPI or 416 305 heads would poly b ur best/ cheapest option

Also u could keep the TBI EFI .. just need a VR FP regulator, larger injectors , and a tune or ebl flash if u have any tuning knowledge or the want to learn ... I didn't know squat about tunning when I got the ebl but I started on a mostly stock LO3 and went from there

91' bird 305 TBI T-5, trick flow heads, 4.10 gears, full UMI setup, track times coming soon!
