355 sbc turbo sizing/cam selection

Starting to gather parts to build up a turbo 355. Engine will have around 425hp n/a, dart block, afr heads, th400 with a brake, will be a cross between street strip. About 80 percent strip. This project will take some time but I do have the charge piping, controller, wg, bov, oil lines, turbo headers...exc. but when it comes to turbo sizing I've been looking at the s400 borg warners. Just not certaint what size is best and not overkill. I had a s366 bw on my turbo 6 and loved it but it was big... needed nitrous to spool it up and pull a good 60 foot. Thanks for any insite. In Hope's of a 700 or so engine.

Also any help on cam selection, I'd be grateful as well.

S475 box stock will do it and still spool good with the T6 96 turbine. Could go 83 turbine if you want abit more spool but it will hurt max effort output in the long run.

Ok thanks that's what I was thinking but wasn't positive.
my last gorg Warner turbo I got from Mike's turbos off ebay. It was a genuine bw and worked flawless for 3 years then I sold it to a member on here so he could use it for a tt 366 set up. Anyone have a better place to purchace one? Big difference in price once you set up to the t6 frame over the t4.

I'm aiming to set this engine up to 9.6:1 compression. Do you think that is too much to run on pump gas? Race has is just outrageous in cost. I may go e85. The plan was to use a fitech 1200hp forced induction efi set up... thoughts on that? This will be a race engine in a race roller car. So a a2w intercooler may be a option for me as well.

I got mine at custom racing turbos aka midwest turbo
http://www.customracingturbos.com/

Took a little while but they had good pricing during black friday sale

Basic t6 in 96 and 83 mm are the cheaper ones. 87 mm turbine and t4 housing options really jump up in price for the s400’s

Not familiar with how well the fitech stuff works. I prefer multiport injection like a single plane efi with holley hp or similar

Ok I feel good about the turbo sizing. A s475 t6 with a .96 ar is what I'm going to get. Found one for about 700. S475 box turbo. Hopefully it's just about right. I have a transbrake so should I go larger yet on the hotside? 1.10.... i still plan to drive this set up a little on the road... drag week one day hopefully.

Now I came along to a shp dart block from a close friend. 350 mains 4.030 fresh hone. Machined for 3.75 stroke. It has 4 built mains with the 2 outer bolts splayed. Is this block going to be able to handle a safe 800 900 crank hp as it sits? I got it for 600 bucks after having a machine chip check it out. I figured I could either build up a turbo engine or use it on my current na Camaro. The one that runs 10.70s...385 sbc all motor. That block I'm using now is a 2 bolt main...010 block with built caps, arp studs...exc yikes! I read that the iron shp block is rated at 600hp somewhere.... I hope I dont need a lil m block. Big money there....thoughts?

also I need to change title to 383 not 355.. is that turbo big enough for a 383... not a 355

Re: 355 sbc turbo sizing/cam selection

I made closer to 1400 on the shp block. Charlie did same thing. It is fine for 1000

If you do that and have a trans brake maybe lean towards the 96mm turbine t6 hotside s475 in 1.32 divided ar. Run 2.25 pipes to turbo. It will spool fine on brake and get you more out of that turbo in case you wanna push it with the good block

Then down the road its easy to upgrade to a bigger comp wheel
