Bruce, what's the update on your car?

Did you get the tranny in?

90RS305 02-08-2005 01:22 AM

Nope, too much going on at my shop to do the swap, so it looks like hopefully Tues. night I will get a chance to do it. If not, might have to wait till this weekend. I just want to be able to drive her without injuring my left leg for once!!! :(

SchwarzCamaroRS 02-08-2005 02:04 AM

this would be interesting to see.

CamaroStud1988 02-09-2005 05:32 PM

dude, why didnt u tell me you were doing this? ive pulled my tranny about 10 times.....literally... ive swapped out a couple t-5's,built one and done a few clutches,i can get em in an out in a couple hours...
what shop u work at?

90RS305 02-09-2005 07:09 PM

I work for a place called Vivid Racing here in Tempe. It'll only take me a couple hours as well, I've got a lift and one of the most awesome tranny jacks I've ever seen. Its just a matter of the shop not being needed when I wanna do it...

CamaroStud1988 02-10-2005 02:39 PM

thats cool man... you wont need a trans jack, the t-5's arent heavy at all.ive never used a trans jack on mine, lol.

Been working here for about 3 months now, and it's friggin GREAT. I'm a performance aftermarket wholesaler. Right now I'm at work in shorts/t-shirt/flipflops and half a pizza in front of me and not only could anybody care less, it's normal. Quite nice when both the owners are 25 :D

Anywho, did the tranny swap last night, and it was a COMPLETE SUCCESS!!! It seriously feels like a brand new car. All my lost power that I had when I first bought the car I can feel coming back (and with the LO3, ANY power gain is easy to feel  ). Unfortunatly Nic and I were to focused and too greasy to take pictures of the actual swap, but we will be dismantaling my old tanny here soon to see what it looked like. As soon as I get them I'll throw them up here...

SchwarzCamaroRS 02-11-2005 02:44 PM

CamaroStud1988 02-11-2005 04:21 PM

hehe.. doubt it. didn't you say it was a 200 shot? Then again. GO FOR IT so you can finally come get my engine!

Bruce, I'm curious to see what you run now with the new tranny. Think your 1/4 will be any better? Does it hook up much better?

Not 100% sure yet. The clutch only had 10 miles on it (if that, the part numbers were still clear as day on the main part of the clutch) so I'm gonna give it a hundred or so before I really try any kind of launching. And actually I'm more worried about traction now, cuz I think I'm going to be able to get in gear a lot more solid now and my crappy H rated 7 1/2" tires just won't be up for the challenge. But, I must say my engine has not felt this strong since I bought it (when I ran consistent 15's) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Seriously, this thing feels like a new car now! :p

Ohh you know it... :D

CamaroStud1988 02-12-2005 03:06 PM

the kit can go from 75-200..... diff. size pills and all.... if i use it on this engine it'll only be a 75 shot.

SchwarzCamaroRS 02-12-2005 09:29 PM

lol, after i replace my tire... so i too can get traction... that cute burnout video i took cost me $120 bucks... posi-bunouts, dont hurt tires NEAR as much as peg-leg ones do... damn it... stupid Hi-Performance Falken tires... lol.. oh and i got my cam!!! LT1 cam and 083's... mmm... u ask vivid for me?

90RS305 02-14-2005 12:19 AM

Yeah actually I did, and he said he would only charge ya $55 an hour since you are a friend of mine (instead of the normal $75). Other than that, it'd be standard by-the-book priceing as far as hours go.

SchwarzCamaroRS 02-15-2005 02:25 PM

nice, sweet ***!! anyone know the shop hours for cam swap, heads are kinda included in that considering head removal is necessary for takin out the cam.. so i dunno if they would add that in or not... dayum... im soooo excited, i cant wait for this stuff to start coming together... my 5.7 will finally act like a 5.7, not a built (or stock in bruces case) 305cid!!

Z28GEN3 02-15-2005 03:24 PM

so do you have the T-5 in the car yet?

90RS305 02-16-2005 12:16 AM

Well, still really hard to determine. I don't wanna say it's balls to the walls faster just to head out to Firebird and run 16.3's all day. All I can say.....it feels SOOOOOOO much better :D

Don't need to remove the heads for a cam swap dude. Just the intake manifold, distributor, loosen the rocker arms so you can pull the pushrods out, and of course the water pump, balancer, and timing cover. :)

i dont think my stock heads would like the new LT1 cam... lol.. if ive got all the other stuff off, i might as well get the heads off too... that way my 083's will just go on at the same time..

Ahhhhhhhhh, since ya put it that way, I can totally see why you want to remove the heads too! :)

SchwarzCamaroRS 02-27-2005 05:05 PM

unless i can use both sets!! lol, ive heard that two sets of heads are better than one... lol... sorry, i just heard this funny sound clip of a prank call to a girl that got two transmissions, halogen fluid for her blinkers and also had a tire rotation cuz the left tires were on the right side and vice versa... lol.. it was comedy

90RS305 03-01-2005 11:47 AM

I've heard that commercial before, she fell for it hook/line/sinker too! We will have to make another trip out to firebird sometime soon. Once I get a good tune on this car I want a rematch David!
