Need help with AC removal
 

Im in the process of doing some engine work. Decided to remove my ac. Never use it, hasnt been charged in 10 years, in the way. I will remove everything from the round canister on forward. Question, how much gas/refrigarentis left in there? When I crack the lines will it just whoosh out, should I stand back? What about the oil thats in there? How much? Do I drain it first? Any water in condensor thing? Lastly, I will just tape up the wires and leave/hide them away. Will I set off any trouble codes? Does this affect the heater? Lot of questions. I love this car, but they are sure a pain in the a** to work on. Ive read (done a search) on the boards about this, just wanted some input from guys that I know and have met personally. Thanks, Jeff

If you have pressure in the system, don't let anyone see you vent it to the atmosphere. The federal fine is $25,000.00 for venting freon and the person who turns you in gets $10,000.00!
An a/c shop should recover it for you for reprocessing for no more than 1 hour shop labor rate.
