well?

Did Don get his number? Is timing like acting where sometimes less is more ;) ?

Did Vin$ent get his 12's or did he lay down like all his smack talking? Did Vince really miss third if the next run he made he grabbed it succesfully and it was only a .1 difference? How much is head games and smoke and mirrors? How can Vince have traction problems if Don is running better times and getting 1.7X 60 fts? Or was he holding back only getting 2.0+ 60' to throw off team bunny?

I noticed Don gave results in the TPI forum but failed to keep us local folks in the loop of both his changes for Saturday or his results. Is this what it is coming don too? Fighting tooth and nail to be #1 and withdrawing from friendly tips in exchange for secretive advantages.

Anyways, it looks like the competition is heating up and both are running good competitive numbers. Fontana is hot, windy, and high in altitude. At 11:00 pm is was still 83* outside.

Hey Vince....do I detect some frayed nerves here or is somebody feeling the heat.
Sorry I didn't post here earlier but it looks like we were typing at the same time.
No, I didn't get my number but it looks like I am knocking on the door. Particulars else where.

The heat is definately felt but no frayed nerves here ;) Hell I haven't even broken in the 13-teens yet. Good to see some competition. I was afraid I was running out of ideas to motivate Mikey and didn't want him to get bored

BrandenCali 09-07-2003 04:16 PM

So Don you get that chip problem fixed and figured out?
Ya the heat is really on now eh.. Dyno installed some new Hi tech Runners:eek: maybe that's what he needed more flow eh.. With the Vortec's intake side and not having that air, that could be the trick. Just how you were thinking you needed to open up your front for air flow..

Now we can't let that happen can we;)

Yes Branden, you I figured it out and it worked.

89 TA 09-07-2003 10:17 PM

So what is Vince running?

VincentZ28 09-07-2003 10:45 PM

With no less than a 2.06 60ft 13.16 @ 87.05 1/8mi @ 107.75 1/4mi. Never could get any traction at all on E.T. Street tires. It spun the tires pass the 60ft mark. 12's will be in the running. The car needs more chip tuning. But still not to too bad first time on new motor at the track.

Hey wait.......
You forgot to mention you got spanked by Dyno Don in a heads-up race 13.01-105 to a 13.16-106.00 Ha! Ha!:D

Grey Goose 09-08-2003 10:59 AM

Speaking of getting spanked who is number 719 again? ;)

Dyno Don 09-08-2003 12:25 PM

No Class

Mike ...do you really want to stoop that low to claim a victory?
I would be ashamed if I were you!

Grey Goose 09-08-2003 01:24 PM

Now Don, you and I both know I’m way too cocky to call that a victory. I don’t think either one of us would be happy with a victory unless we came through the traps right next to each other. I just wanted to raise your pulse a little and keep the fire burning. I can/will beat Vince out of the hole but I’ll have to worry about him at the other end of the track. Now you’re a different story, I’ve got to be on point all the way from the staging lanes to the traps. Heads up baby, ice cold no mistakes.

james_85Z28 09-08-2003 02:04 PM

ladies, let's not get your panties all bunched up ;)

It will all be settled soon enough ;)

whatcha doing this weekend Don?

Dyno Don 09-08-2003 02:35 PM

I just wanted to raise your pulse a little and keep the fire burning.

It worked!!!!
Now I may just put the runners on the Candy Cane and show up with it.:D

Not sure you wanted to rile me up that much!

james_85Z28 09-08-2003 02:43 PM

I thought you wanted to compete? :waveman:

true, but Mike being the gentleman he is will lift near the end to let you catch up a little bit more than that :lala:

Dyno Don 09-08-2003 03:35 PM

Dreamer!!!!!!!:)

89 TA 09-08-2003 07:29 PM

I guess I'll go so I can race the winner.:)

12secSS 09-08-2003 08:22 PM

Well, we had fun. Best ET on our street tires was a 14.0 @ 100 (2.3 60'), had we brought our ET Streets ... we would have been running mid-low 13s @ 102. Since we were in the 14s ;) we decided to run together and pratice our RTs. Had some good races against a twin turbo 300ZX and a 96 Cobra. With the ZX, I spun out of the hole for the hole-shot and stayed in front of him ... until the 1000' mark (14.2 @ 72 ;) ). I hit the brakes so I didn't run a 13.8, resulting in us not being able to run together without helmets. The Cobra had a good launch against us, but I was gaining on it, but also had to let off at the 1000' mark (14.8 @ 71 to his 14.18 @ 98). :) Next time out, we will bring out the sticky tires.

You gentlemen are going to have to excuse my arrogance. We haven’t exactly been forthcoming with the particulars of a very recent test and tune session we had. You see we did indeed have the vehicle staged in a secret location on Saturday evening. Just incase someone decided to make a 12-second pass. Hey when you’re on top you’ve got to be ready to defend your title at a moment’s notice. Even though we strongly believe the vehicle should always run in a street stock configuration we went for total optimization. We removed the front sway bar complete with a minor weight reduction. Consisting of spare tire, tools, and a couple of Jack in the Box bags. Purchased a 5 gallon jug of 76”s Cool Blue 100, and introduced a more track friendly chip that would allow us to maximize certain perimeters and take advantage of the 100 octane fuel. We weren’t planning on saying anything but after hours of contemplation and the loss of a substantial amount on sleep on both parts here it is. Now I won’t say whether this is our best, worst, or average pass but gentleman it is what it is. It is with great humility that we accept the crown for the fastest naturally aspirated third generation f body in our group. We would like to thank all of the contenders for their kind words and motivation. We love all of you and couldn’t have done it without you.

Dyno Don 09-09-2003 12:46 PM

Well.....congratulations (with tongue in cheek). And to think all it took was throwing in the bank and the kitchen sink and all the fictures to get there and pass the previous record holder with less cost in the whole car than it took to get you there. (just couldn't resist). But you guys definately desevre the accolades for all your hard work, heart aches and efforts. With that said, enjoy it while you can as the Candy Cane will be back:D

BrandenCali 09-09-2003 04:49 PM

Congrads to the Blue Bunny team.. Well, I thought this normally aspirated event was for every one to be there at the same event? Not for the Blue Bunny to run off and sneak a carrot and have a drink along with it. But I guess you are doing it your game not wanting any one else yet to pull a 12 second run so you can hold the crown for how long?? Until the Candy Cane is back? Or until Vince is hooking up? Hmmm Well I might as well lend the Candy Cane my cam as Jerry's intake is looking very promising with that short of runner to produce some major hp. And Keep Don in the game and let him borrow my Super Ram and 58 mm Lengenfelter Tb... All the smooth Engle, Lengenfelter stuff Oh my..

JERRYWHO 09-09-2003 07:29 PM

I think the reason the Blue Bunny ran on sunday and not on saturday was that it has the full **** setup on it. You know no seats or dash and the aluminum tube out the front by the fog lights and that kind of stuff.

Jerry

P.S. Good run.

james_85Z28 09-09-2003 07:31 PM

well i had to replace the carpet anyways ;)

ROTFLMAO @ Jerry

BrandenCali 09-09-2003 11:09 PM

Plus they ran in the morning with no heat.. They knew what they were doing.. That surely what made James the fastest n/a 3rd gen. oh plus the 100 octane dont that count like 50 shot nos:huh:

james_85Z28 09-09-2003 11:28 PM

All kidding aside, I can asure you gentlemen that the only items removed from the car were the jack, spare tire, and mini-air compressor. It had full interrior and no other mods except those as noted in the other post.

I am personally insulted and mystified that Don chalked up and dismissed the timeslip and victory to pure $$$. Going fast has always come down to $$$ and how much you got. We all have more into our cars than their KBB value. And he was the one talking about class a few posts above.

Up until Sunday my car was track prepped exactly how I drove it everyday and Don would rib me for not being the fastest. Previously I didn't drain my fuel tank and fill it up with only a couple gallons of 100 octane fuel (usually started with 1/2 tank of 91), fill an airbag, and remove suspension components for weight savings and weight transfer. I didn't have race-only PROMS. I didn't do a lot of things that a die hard racer would. I just drove it in, paid my fees, and slapped some sticky tires on. In my line of work I don't network with a lot of people who give me great deals on parts. Don, you have just as many mods on your car as I do. The only somewhat extravagant item on my car are my heads and intake but even those are hardly exotic or rare. I didn't feel like having $1800 into edelbrock heads to have them flow like AFRs. I needed a higher revving induction system so I could catch and pass LS1s on the straights. Anything else you have is comparable including the custom intake by Jerry. I purchased a set of SLP runners to make into something similar but I didn't have the time or access to a tig to complete the project as I had wanted. I later sold the SLP runners to a fellow member at a good price and bought a SR. I originally made a deal with branden for his SR but he backed out at the last minute for reasons unknown. Through another source I was able to pick up a new SR even cheaper than he would let his go for and even cheaper than all the used SRs on e-bay.

This was never a contest of who can go the fastest for the cheapest. Your estimate for my cost and the cost of Kevin's car is both infantile and erroneous- intended only to justify your loss and downgrade my cars' victory. As for others being there, I wasn't there when Kevin or Vince ran there best times. This was just a test and tune experiment to see what would happen and it happened.

As I have always stated this car is setup for RR 1st and it runs whatever it runs in the 1/4 mile. Up until this point all modifications were based solely on RR. The only drag racing specific part I have purchased is an airbag that still resides in my garage. I have changed from poly to heim jointed suspension pieces specifically for RR only.

Has it come down to me having to justify my combo or pieces I have chosen?

VincentZ28 09-10-2003 12:32 AM

Good run fellas. It is just a matter of time for me to get my car as quick or quicker than yours. Remember, that was my first time out on the new engine. Give me some time and tuning and I will get there just like you did. No matter how you look at it, our E.T's will be close. This includes Kevin, Don, James, Mike, Raul, Vincent and whoever else with modified engines. We all have to remember that this is all in fun!

Dyno Don 09-10-2003 01:07 AM

To quote your team mate:
. I just wanted to raise your pulse a little and keep the fire burning.
I never meant to insult or mystify or chalk up your efforts in any way to anything but solid efforts. But I too, felt insulted by the post that rubbed my nose in it, it was totally uncalled for. I know this is all for fun so lets try to keep it that way.
With that said, please accept my apology for my rudeness and allowing my dander to be raise to such a high ferver.
And again congratulations to you for a fine effort and to your cocky Hired Gun(grin).
Has it come down to me having to justify my combo or pieces I have chosen?
Absolutely not!
Has it come down to seeing how low we can go to aggitate each other?
I certainly hope not! Let's try to keep it on the up and up gentlemen.

Kevin91Z 09-10-2003 02:33 AM

James, there is no need to get down on Branden. He knows what he is talking about, but he is not a good typer.

Congrats to you guys on your hard work and effort to beat me. It took me over a year to break into the 12's and thankfully it didnt take you that long. Enjoy your top spot while you have it as there are several people looking to knock you off. :D

Your next task is to run the number yourself, instead of your driver. :p

The only reason I referenced our run was because you reminded Vince of your victory against him last week. I can recall certain contest that yielded quite the opposite result and in a vehicle that none of us would have ever thought was capable of a 13 second time slip. Yet I don’t believe the particulars of the race ever made it on the board. We all know how disheartening it can be to go out to the track with a new combo and fall short of your expectations. One good cheap shot deserves another and I totally broke character to take it. Besides you know I’m way to surgical with words to blow my wad like that. The door of respect swings both ways. The fastest cars in this group all have one thing I common, you. Each of us has turned to you for guidance at one time or another. I for one and I'm sure I speak for the rest can truly appreciate your accomplishments, experience, and dedication to our craft. I was just looking to keep a level playing field. Now let’s have a group hug...

So now that all the "Time Slip" racing has taken place lets see some real racing!
How's about some heads up baby!

"I've got you Baby"

Somebody needs to apologize for their behavior! Some things should be left unsaid. My $.02

james_85Z28 09-11-2003 01:51 AM

I edited out my comments to Branden which are inappropriate and for that I appologize.

My comments on the weather were not of a technical nature as Jerry has researched, but based on the fact that we didn't get "magic" air pumped in especialy for the runs. My experience at fontana is that once the sun comes up the there is always a breaze and the track heats up quickly. Unfortunately I was called into work and was unable to attend the morning runs and verify the weather conditions and additionally tweak the car. Since the car was prepped and ready to go I had mike go ahead and run it as is with no tuning done besides adding back some timing since we used better fuel.

Anybody could have gone to the event and been there as well. It was well publicized and open to everyone. Saying it's unfair that I went in the morning in secret is BS. I have been to the tracks several times alone or just deciding to go that day. The first time I met Randy, Rusty, and Jason L., I went to the track by myself.

One of these weekends we'll be heading down to C-bad to get on the marry-go-round to hopefully squash my PE problem or at least rule out a few tuning concerns I have with it. Since I have school, work, and other projects, it will be a last minute thing and won't be planned in advanced.

The weather will get cooler and everyone's times will improve. Vince did well his first time out. When he starts listening to Mike then hell get his number quickly after that ;)

For those I affended in this thread I appologize for the grief I may have caused. I suggest let this thread die and if you have anything else to say PM me or start a new post.

James

Unfortunately it appears that you will be able to fry eggs on the track at Fontana again Sept 13. Too bad.
