Fitting 15 x 10 rims with 6" backspacing under back of 3rd gen?
 

Right now I have a set of Weld Pro Stars 15 x 10 with 5.5" BS under the car. I want to get the rims further under the car and I think going to a 6" BS would get them under there. HOWEVER, Im unsure of how close it would be to the inner wheel wells.

Im wondering if Id have to roll the lip. Ive already cut the bump stops and pounded on the inner wells to get the tires under it I have now.

Im running 27 x 11.5 hoosier QTP (READ: DOT SLICKS) under the car now and this year will be running a 28 x 10 MT SLICK (read: 1/2" wider than the hoosiers i run now)

Things to ponder.

why not mount the slicks on the wheels you already have? then it'd be more like 1/4" on the outside and 1/4" on the inside. you can always dummy up a couple of wood yard sticks to check your clearance with. sorry i have no idea about the whhels and slicks you want to run.

looks like your gonna need a bfh on the inner fender and roll the lip. My 10" wheels have 5.875" of backspace and I was told they wouldn't hit the inner fender nor would I need to roll the outer lip. Of course, my 295/35's are no where near as tall as your 28x10's. :D

With a 28" tire you need a BFH at some areas of the inner fender well with 5.5" BS, so with 6" get the mini sledge out :)

Okay so educate me on "rolling the lip"

Is there a good way to do this without totally deforming the quarter panel? Im already planning on repainting the car this spring when the temps begin to come back up where it will be safe to paint. So paint damage is of no concern.

Do I just tap on it with the mini sledge to get it to massage back up and under? Should I cut notches peridoically along the lip and rolling it along the seam between cuts?

I run prostars on my 91 I have a 15x10 on the rear with 6.5 backspacing. I run a 295/60 tire on the rear.
I had to use a really BFH on the inner fender, however I did not have to roll the lip. Your tire is a little taller though so you probably will have to a little. All of the extra work pays off. It looks muck better if you can get it under the quarter. I also removed the bump stop and part of the support for it.

I want the tires tucked further under the car so I can bring the car down over the tires alittle bit too. Make it look a little better than it does and still retain good function.

you can either use the baseball bat method--just roll the bat between the lip and the tire until you have the room that you need or www.tirerack.com used to rent a specific tool for rolling fender lips--you probably need to call them bc I've never seen the tool mentioned any where on their site.

you mentioned that you wanted them tucked and the body to come down some so that it looks good and all that. I know it's probably more work than you want to do but hey, you get out what you put in, so I would say it's time to mini-tub it. :D

I thought about that Jeff but Ive talked to more people than just here on this thread and everyone seems to think I can get it with a BFH so I will leave it at that until I find out firsthand that I need to mini tub.
