subframe connectors

I'm looking for a bit of details on making your own subframe connectors. It's too damn cold to climb under my car right now, but from what I remember, we have frame horns on the front and back that just sort of disappear into the unibody construction.

If I took some steel tubing with a 3/16th's wall thickness and welded it to both frame horns and then made some crossmembers, I'd pretty much have a full frame under my vehicle right? Is this basically what I should be looking to do with subframe connectors, or is this more than most do? Should I weld the "pieced" sections to the rocker panels, or maybe add body bushings above them and bolt them into the rockers or something?

I'm just brainstorming here, I don't have any experience with this.

it's pretty simple to do. just get under the car amd you'll see what you have and where the pieces need to go. look at some catalogs and you'll get an idea what other makes are doing, where, and how they weld in. you don't need bushing or anythng like that.
