A guide for what tires fit what wheels?

I see tons of posts of people asking how big or how wide of a tire they can fit on their wheels and everyone seems to have a different answer for them. I was wondering if there was a guide or chart or something that showed what size tires will safely fit different size rims (height x width)? I know about the tire size calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html but it doesn't look like it takes wheel width into acount. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could look at www.tirerack.com

If you do a basic tire size seach, for example a 245/50r16 it'll pull up all tire available in that size. Select one of the tires--in this case I'll select the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. It shows you basics on the tire. Now select "Specs"..... it'll pull up a page with all the sizes of tires offered in that model and all the info you could need like this

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...e1=yes&place=0

That's one way of doing it, if you have a tire size in mind and want to make sure it'll fit your needs.
