wheel hop in reverse?

kind of an odd question, i think, but i dont have any real wheel hop problems when going forward, but i have horrible wheel hop when im backing up under more throttle than just off idle. im a little confused, though currently i am still running a stock panhard bar with poly bushings and a stock torque arm. any ideas? back when the car was stock and crappy, i had no problems at all but now they are terrible.

I really hope you arent flooring it in reverse, you aren't supposed to do that at all. The way the ring gear and pinion gear meet gives you a really shallow mesh in reverse. I can't imagine you getting wheel hop if you are backing up in reverse at the speed you are supposed to be going (<4mph).

That question REALLY doesnt even deserve an answer it is so stupid!!!!:idiot:

:gocrazy: Stupid? i though it was a reasonable question!!? the thing is terrible, i dont floor the car going backwards im not an a$$ or anything i just was looking for an idea here. if i give the car any gas other then just a light feathering it hops, bad. so what are you guys the kind of a$$es who do a k-turn at idle, hold up traffic and take an hour doing it wtf, my god, such attitudes here tonight lol. so anyway, does anyone think this is a suspension issue or do all these cars do this, like i said i never really had a problem earlier.

Some specs about the car would be helpful. Mods? Especialy to your rear suspension.

Think about this though, things are opposite in reverse, so if you drive the wheels down going forward, they will suck up in reverse. The higher your anti-squat is forward, you will get the opposite reaction in reverse.

As for the rest. I am the kind of ******* who does not need to go in reverse at 40mph, The only time I am backing up, is when I am parking, I don't need more than idle speed there.

oh me too i mean i dont ever have the car over 10mph backwards when backing up and generally im not going far in reverse, but still there is wheel hop. the car has about 300hp. lakewood LCA 3:73 26" tires stock torque arm stock panhard bar stock ride height

What does the LCA angle look like? How about shocks. Most wheel hop problems can really be tracked down to shocks, and then next would be funky geometry in the rear. In your case, since it is only happening in reverse, I am going to say this is a two fold issue. 1) shocks that are not in great shape, but not bad enough (yet), to cause you real problems going forward. 2) I bet we find that the axle side of your LCA is lower than the front, this is what people will tell you is good for forward traction (I wont even get into that). This is going to make it more likely to hop in reverse. Toss in the higher gear ration in reverse, and a slug of other factors, and you get hop.

If you car drives fine forward, the only thing I would probably modify is probably shocks, anything else you do, is going to change the way the car drives going forward. I would probably just tell myself to stay off the loud pedal, when going backwards.

Check the U joints. Problems with them are more pronounced in reverse.

the LCA angle is slightly lower on the axle side, im going to put on LCA relocation brakets this winter sometime, the driveshaft and u-joints are new, but the problem has been around since the last driveshaft. the shocks are newer stock replacements. im starting to wonder if the torque arm bushing is wasted, its original 21 year old material and i have never gotten around to change it. hmmm

I never get in a hurry backingup.....good luck on your problem..Tom

You guys never have to parallel park drive by a spot, someone leaves and you quickly reverse to catch it before another car comes and grabs it...ive used reverse more then idle plenty of times. In the city, you dont have all day to park you gotta move your ***. Especally living in around my area where everyone is in a f-in hurry...myself included...i hate people that take there sweet *** time or dont know how to park.

No im not racing in reverse, just driving.

I get wheel hop in reverse if i give it over 1/4 throttle most likely. Just all the angles are backwards + my suspension geometry isant exactly stock.
