Tire Hum-Alignment Question My 85 TA started singing to me the other day immediately following a hard panic stop. Get above fifty and the tires start humming and a high pitched vibration (order of magnitude above wheel speed) comes through the wheel. The hum and vibration disappears, however, during right turns on the freeway then comes back as I straighten up. No difference in the hum when turning left. The car does not pull and there is no noticeable difference in steering or ride. I aim to take it to an alignment shop and have it checked but my concern is that this may indicate a worn or loose steering component, maybe tie rod, that needs to be corrected prior to alignment. None of the components are original but most have around 60K miles on them as I replaced them 3 years ago when I got it. I have stock size Fuzion tires on 15" rims, maybe 30K on tires with 1/3 life left in them. Any thoughts or suggestions from the guys that know more about this stuff than I do? |
Re: Tire Hum-Alignment Question My car started doing the exact same thing but around 55 MPH and faster and goes away when going around a corner to the right. I've replace all the front end suspension parts and bushings about a year ago. I'm going to do some investigation tomorrow. Let me know if you find anything out, I will do the same. |
Re: Tire Hum-Alignment Question Turned out to be a bad set of wheel bearings. Go figure. |
Re: Tire Hum-Alignment Question Yeah, I replaced my wheel bearings over the weekend also and the car is nice and smooth! |
