Pulley kit?
 

I know it seems a little far fetched to have a pulley question in the suspension board, but I want to know if it's a good idea if I plan on doing a bit of autocross?

I realize the performance pulley kits will slow down the operation of the power steering pump, will this have a negative effect in the steering? If it does, is there a way to compensate for it.

I was looking at either the March Power and Amp kit #4410

I know there is some adjustment in the power steering pump, but I don't know if it is relavent.

Any experience with either kit is greatly appreciated.

Sorry is this is eventually to be ruled to go in another forum location, I figured the question was geared to the power steering unit more than the engine it self...

I'm not sure where you would find it but if the kit does adversly effect the power steering pump, you can step down the size of the pully on the pump and it will speed it back up. I would be more concerned with the water pump speed, an electric water pump would free up as much HP as the reduction drive system would.

The pump moves enough fluid to make it easy to turn at idle and when you are pushing it around the turns you will be well above idle so from ease of turning I think you are fine.

The car low pressure line runs under the radiator and back then up to the pump, this is to dissipate heat, if the fluid is flowing slower you may not disapate as much heat which would cause problems. You could extend it or position the line so it has better air flow to solve this.

not sure if an electric water pump is a good idea for track use.

as for the pulley kit, i have a underdrive kit, march, and found that the alternator spun to slowly to keep the voltage stable at idle with an electric fuel pump and cooling fans ect running. I had to swap in a larger crank pulley to compensate.

The only time i noticed an issue with the PS, was a idle when turning the wheel, if would be a little stiff. But the larger crank pulley fixed that.

So i guess the final point, i wouldnt bother with an underdrive kit, not worth it.
