Need some inexspensive struts/shocks Hello Third Gens, I have a 1990 IROC. I need new struts & shocks all around and don't have a lot of $$$. I'm not looking to go corner carving just something that will give me a comfortable ride and not rattle the fillings out of my teeth. I was quoted today $684 parts & labor + $69 for alignment from the local shop. They said they would use Monroe? Open to all suggestions. $753 is just too much. |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks Monroe struts cost like 50 bux each, and are usually what you put on a car to sell it so you can say "it has new shocks and struts". whatever you buy, you will spend a lot more if you are paying somebody to install them, thats where all that cost comes from, its not the parts, it labor. Your not going to find cheaper shocks and struts. Find a mechanically inclined buddy, or fellow 3rd genner who is willing to help out for a 6 pack or something. if you were near me, i would gladly help you with this, but it seems you are in nevada? |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks check rockauto.com .i bought my struts from them at closeout prices. |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks I got kyb gr2 front shocks pretty cheap. or tokico for like 599 on ebay |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks Vegasiroc, if you need some help with your ride PM me as I live in the northwest part of town.. |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks I went with kyb, but if I were to do it again I would go with koni yellows. they were $140 a set, haven't bottomed out since! :) |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks check out oem shocks and struts. I thought my car rode decent and handled decent as it came from the factory. I priced out Bilstein, KYB, Koni, etc... and wound up buying oem. I was surprised GM still made them; they do. I'll try to dig my receipt up; but they were less than anything else, and...hell... the originals lasted 140,000 miles. (I think the rear shocks were about $26 ea.) |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks Ya im in the market for rear shocks. Ive got the decarbons off the 96 trans am car, so they have a few miles on them and my tires rub the inner fender. if i remove my spring isolator. id like to try shocks to keep it more under control (feels bouncy compared to my nice and tight front kyb's) |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks I have done some research and for my DD I decided to go with "KYB-GR 2" front struts and "KYB Gas A Just" shocks for the rear. There is a video at the bottom of each page/link that explains how they work. = http://www.kyb.com/products/shocks/gr2.php = http://www.kyb.com/products/shocks/gasajust.php I beleave that the "Gas A Just" shocks will give me a stiffer ride in the back, those and the Moog #5665 rear springs. |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks Good Idea, I wish I went with the gas adjust rear, but didn't. The front's were a pain to put in, and I would get camber plates if I did it again. |
Re: Need some inexspensive struts/shocks another one for kyb's; they are the best bang for buck setup out there and not much more than what you'd pay for a set of monroes or gabriels (maybe even less if you shop around). |
