KYB gas-a-just shocks/struts?

So, I had a phone call with Pep Boys today about changing things in my account and they let me know that I have a ton of rewards points with them that I need to spend before they expire. Normally I don't worry about a few points here and there, but they said I am at around 3000 points ( I spend far too much time and money there obviously) which equals $150 in store credit:D
I have been looking at KYB's at Summit for some time now. I have a lifetime warranty with the local Brakes Plus for my shocks/ struts, If they go bad they will give me new ones for free and I pay for install. Not a bad deal except the shocks they use are trash and blow within a month or two of install, and I am as gentle on my suspension as one can be in Colorado ( more pot holes than pot heads here:lmao:) I end up replacing them after maybe 6 months max. and I think it's past due to do some quality parts.

PB has KYB's for about $20 cheaper than summit, plus I don't have shipping and my credit will cover most of the shocks, maybe $70 out of pocket. Has anyone here used them or know if they are a good, long lasting product. I don't want the credit to be a waste.

I used them and they were ok. They are good value for the $.
I do have to tell you though, In the last year I switched from KYB's to Koni yellow sport shocks & struts and the difference is profound.

Still the KYB's are SO much better than the crap they stick under your car for cheap at pep boys. I think you will be amazed at the difference in handling and the improved ride quality that a decent set of S&S will give you.

Still, if you want really good handling and a nice non bouncy/non harsh ride I would highly suggest the Koni's over the KYBs any day. The car will feel glued to the road over bumps, even smooth surfaces will feel a lot better. believe me it's something you will really notice over all those damn pot holes lol. I used to live in Colorado, so I know what you mean.

:imo:KYB GR-2 front struts & gas/adj rear shocks are the way to go without busting the bank account.

May have to try some Konis one day

Been using KYBs on everything since the 90s and love em
Affordable firm up the ride and never go bad

They can seem a little stiff ie a "dumb" shock but always liked a firm ride.
Meaning doesnt really soak the bumps up. You feel them but the ride wont be mush. lol

Konis seem nice but a lot out of my price range. As long as KYBs are good I may go with them. Thanks guys

Definitely go with the KYB's. It will make your car handle and ride way better. Having good shocks and struts is important if you wan't your car to handle good.

You can upgrade later if you wan't.

I put KYB gas-adjust shocks on my 69 2 years ago. I'm very pleased with them. My 69 is mostly a cruiser right now. A friend of mine who also has a 69 camaro (same model as mine) complimented how much better mine rides than his. btw i like a firm, sports car ride. It aint no cadillac!

I put Koni yellows in my 92. It's the racecar of the two.:burnout:

Now define a stiffer ride? I don't mind feeling a few bumps, but even hitting our manhole covers here, which are sunk about an inch from the rest of the road, is just painful and hitting a speed bump at anything higher than 1 mph I feel like I am slamming the frame with a sledge hammer.

Stiffer ride as in you won't bounce as much over bumps. That sledge hammer feeling you are having is your car bottoming out over every bump due to your poor quality shocks and struts not being able to control the body's motion. Your car is just bouncing around over bumps giving your car a very HARSH ride. Don't mistake a stiff ride for a harsh one, your car will ride better with higher quality S&S, I can guarantee it.

Like noshow says it's not bouncy, it doesn't float. It rides like any sports car. Keep in mind that springs are the other half of this equation. My 69 has stock BBC springs under the 327 (that's how i bought it and haven't changed it). I'd even bet you'd like the ride of my 92 with the koni yellows and 850 springs. the KYB gas-adjusts will treat you well. Don't over-read into the word firm.

I like the KYB's. I have the non adjustable one all the way around. Not performance/racing struts by any means however defiantly a nice street ride with a little edge.

I have the KYB AGX up front, and they are great struts. Even after 8 years. I don't find them too harsh. Mind you I have them dialed in more towards 'soft'.

I have the KYB AGX shocks in the rear and struts up front. I like 'em. I have mine set on "3" which is a bit of a stiffer ride but I can corner like a sombitch.
