Factory harness bar?

Hey all,

I noticed something in the interior of some third gen cars that mine does not have that sits behind the rear seats. It looks like some type of harness bar for additional rigidity that might be stock. Here's some pictures of what I'm talking about.

A car without it...(like mine)

And a car with it...

My car is a base model, but the car pictured w/the bar is a Formula 350.

Was this some type of additional suspension piece/upgrade from the factory? Or is this an aftermarket upgrade? If my car doesn't have one, how important is having one for a mild street car, if you plan on having subframe connectors installed anyway? I ask, because I'm at a point where in order to save my car/project, I will probably have to do some repairs to make it a temporary daily driver, and cargo space does matter somewhat (if removing/folding down the back seats).

Thanks!

That's just a rear cargo shade.

What GMan 3MT said... It doesn't add any rigidness to that section as the ends are spring loaded to hold it in place. Also makes removal easy, grab rolled up shade by one end, push and remove from bracket.

To add one (they are nice to have), IIRC, the body side brackets get welded on.

To add rigidness to that area some folks use the rear shoulder belt mounting points to bolt in a bar. A search should bring up examples.
