comparing steering kits

I know its been done many years ago but I need to her it directly from the thirdgens mouth,. there seems to be 3 main makers of steering kits, sphon, moog, hawks, proforged. has anyone used these kits recently and a in the past? im going to drop almost $300 for 6 small pieces. needto know they are great pieces.

Re: comparing steering kits

Of that group, only Moog makes the parts, the others are repackaged "who knows" brand.

I always buy moog

Sometimes house brand parts at local places are reboxed Moog too. I didn't see proforged before, I've used them too with no problems.

Re: comparing steering kits

im having trouble finding a kit from moog. even their website "kit" is only tierods and a centerlink. no idler arm or pitman arm. hotchkis looks good but its about $500! hawks has a couple of kits that look the same but are priced differently. wish they had an email so I could aske them about it. the kit that's listed as spohn is $299 and is complete. the other kit is $169 and looks identical to the spohn kit but isn't listed as spohn. proforged pops up EVERYWHERE. I haven't found many comments on the quality of the proforge kits though. cant be any worse than my worn out stuff.

Amazon or rockauto for Moog. The only Moog part you want to stay away from is the idler arm. The geometry is off and you will want to get the AC Delco one.

Moog Outer Tie Rod - ES2226RL
Moog Center Link - DS1049
Moog Inner Tie Rod - ES2227RL
AC Delco Idler Arm - 45C1065

Re: comparing steering kits

I contacted spohn and asked why their kit cost more than the proforge kit. I also asked where their parts were made. here is his reply;"
Most of the parts in our kit are Proforged parts except we use our chrome moly tie rod adjusters instead the Proforged aluminum adjusters. That's why there is a slight price difference. Our adjusters are MUCH beefier and the way to go Thanks."
I like his answer and will probably buy their kit.
