1990 IROC Steering Box

Folks,

I have a 1990 IROC with FE2 suspension and 198000 miles on it. The steering box was completely worn out so I had my regular mechanic change it out this summer. He could not find the correct one, so he put in a standard (soft ride?) steering box at first. The tires rubbed and the steering was messed up (felt very soft and darted), so I took it back and he put in a different box. The tires don't rub now but the steering is very soft and it doesn't feel right. The old box is long gone now sadly or else I would have had had it rebuilt. After some research, it looks like I need an XH coded steering box (?). I've looked everywhere and can't find one for sale. GM no longer offers it. Any suggestions on where to find the correct, stiff feeling steering box for this? Thanks. -Ger

Are you looking new or remanned? You should be able to pick up a remanned unit at any parts store. If you're looking new, I've heard lots of good things across many GM platforms about this Borgeson piece. I'm actually getting ready to order one myself.

Lares 1282 for a factory style iroc box.

Thanks Guys. I'll probably check out the Lares. I want the original stiff steering feel again. Hopefully this one will work. Thanks again. -Ger
