Steinjager Torque-arm Nightmare!!! Wont work with manual trans Long story short this wont work on a manual trans thirdgen unless you do extensive modification which I dont think is worth 10-12 hours of your time when this should go in 4-6 hrs max. NO WHERE ON THE WEBSITE OR IN DIRECTIONS DOES IT STATE THAT IT DOESNT FIT MANUAL TRANS TUNNEL!!! For christ sake Im trying to make this work but its terribly dissapointing that this looked like an upgrade from jegster torque arm which worked well in my 88 GTA and held up to 1.42 60' on t-brake. To start they wouldnt even have their so called engineer call me, the e-brake cable will be crushed if you dont cut a hole like I had to. This company obviously is clueless about thirdgens and that the trans tunnels are different from auto to manual. The seat belt tab that bolts thru the passenger side is not even close and I had to chop out a good 1"x7" section and drill 2 new hols to boot. I thought it was all good untill I actually hung the torque arm in there...it wont even bolt up to the Quick performance ford 9" i just installed and POR-15 coated. The rod end bolts that come with this kit hit the housing and cant get long housing bolts thru. Well the sledgehammer aint gonna work for this one. Great another hour or 2 tomorrow to figure out the rest of this junk. Oh yea youcan tell by the pics i had to sledge hammer in the drivers side e-brake mount to clear this torque arm. Id love to know what else could go wrong. The directions say(which dont come in the box) that u should use a jack to seat the tunnel mount. That didnt help one bit I cut 2x4's and beat them in with sledgehammer that I use to break concrete with. The car lifted up off the rear jackstands and could have injured myself gravely. Dangerous things I do I know, im a carpenter by trade but also an electrical engineer so Ive done crazier tasks before. Even with beating this plate to death it still hangs 1/4-3/8" from the top of trans tunnel. Its quite obvious there was no R&D done on this product. Re: Steinjager Torque-arm Nightmare!!! Wont work with manual trans The driveshaft tunnel is only different at the front, where the shifter is, on a manual car. The rest of the tunnel is the same. And the rear axle thing really isn't their fault unless they stated it would work |

Didn't want to call capt. oblivious but hes out of the country at the moment. I guess youve used this torque arm in stick shift car. Fill me in with your results. :) |

Re: Steinjager Torque-arm Nightmare!!! Wont work with manual trans I was looking at their website and your pictures and had some questions. First was what were you trying to change or gain with this arm over the jegster piece? This looks to be a longer arm, which will leverage the car differently. It will not load the tires as hard as the short jester arm will, but will make the car a bit more stable and less prone to brake hop when stopping. As for the fitment, aside from the hole where the shifter is, there is no difference in the tunnel. If this hit the seat belt bolts and parking brake like shown in your pictures, it would do the same in an auto car. This looks to me to just be a poorly built product. Is there any way you could have installed the saddle mount further forward? Or does the arm not reach then? The fitment at the rear axle is disappointing but not unheard of when working with two aftermarket products. Again, a piss poor design of the mount where it attaches to the axle, no other arm I have seem has the heim joints that close to the through bolt holes. |

This is easily 8-10" shorter plus 15+ pounds lighter overall than the BMR extreme torque arm that I didnt install and sold recently. As Ive seen pictures on the jegs website of the Alston torque arm, the steinjager looks to be very similar. Im going to dig into this also. The pics the steinjager engineer sent me show a car that didnt have an e-brake and if this was the test vehicle for design I dont know what else to say. |

Re: Steinjager Torque-arm Nightmare!!! Wont work with manual trans I WAS the product engineer on the design, I left the company 3 years ago the pics are of my car, which was originally a T5 car. As for the rear mount mine uses a Moser adapter and went together pretty easy. |

Im just making others aware of the products flaws and its not a direct bolt in like other companies. The rear mount should have 2 sets of holes in it like other companies do also. :goodidea::search::doh: |

I dont know what else to say other than the fitment worked fine with mine and several others that were installed years ago. I cannot speak to any changes or revisions that may have taken place sine then. |
