Proforged experience - have any?

I don't see many folks around here talking about Proforged suspension parts. On paper they look really good, a possible upgrade over other stuff like Moog/Delco. Ran across this thread, and they have Proforged a pretty good review, They like Howe better, but howe looks to be limited in what they offer and would change geometry of car.

Any proforgers out there?

I'm interested to hear some feedback as well, since I will be rebuilding my steering in the near future.

In another thread, some folks have indicated that Proforged idler arms do not match the OEM geometry.

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

I got the whole kit. I have a complete moog setup as well. Couple of issues. First they tout the parts as coming painted. Best bet is to buy each part individual. If you buy the kit it all comes in one plastic bag. I sent it back as the parts as they were all knicked up. The its well made. I did have 2 issues with the grease fitting. Had 2 out of the set the balls and spring were completely separated from the fitting. I'm sure it's a step above autozone stuff. At least it comes with a decent paint job and the adjusters are cnc.

If that is the thread I ran across, it was moog that was mentioned: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...dler-arms.html

Proforge claims pretty much everything has CNC milled surfaces. Not sure if that is any different from Delco/Moog, but it sounds smooth and consistent.

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

BTW - the guys in the outside thread in first post sound pretty knowledgeable, Proforge even chimes in, another owns a shop, and the rest are racing 1st/2gens. Proforge is getting pretty good reviews over there, one guy just says its good stuff, just don't compare it with Howe, not same class.

Couple more great threads, one a review, another Proforged giving us some insight on the suspension industry. The insight is good, I'm in the glasses/sunglasses business, and what he says is very similar to what we experience.

Where Proforge gives us insight to their products.

Yep, that's the one. Proforged is mentioned toward the end of the thread.

We use Proforged in all of our street products and half the race products (our Corner Max arms use Howe lowers). Never had a problem and we abuse our stuff during racing and testing...

I second this. I have used a few Proforged products in a recent build ( s10 truck which is fairly similar in many ways to a 3rd gen) and am sold on Proforged products. very good quality. I actually changed the geometry on the truck with a custom centerlink attachment I machined which was easy to do because of Proforged nice machined mount surfaces. I could not do this with a stock piece.

Thanks for chiming in. Any opinion willing to give on Proforged -vs- current day AC Delco, Moog, NAPA? I'm reading some of these main stream brands are not what they used to be. My goal for replacement parts is to try to remain true to factory because I want to preserve the car as a time capsule, but at the same time, don't want to be putting junk on the car just for the sake of looks.

Nice work on that machined part! So are these are noticeably different from factory parts?

Does Proforged have the incorrect idler arm height issue seen in some other aftermarket idlers?

I've run them for a few years with no issues.

84 1LE any issues with your Proforged parts?

I'm in the process of installing all proforged front end. Seems like nice quality stuff so far. My new UMI a-arms come with proforged ball joints installed in them.

Are you aware of any issues with the Pro Forged Idler Arm?

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

I forget the name, but it's a moly lube.
I bought the idler arm too & read that thread about how the aftermarket ones are all wrong. Again I've had zero issues with mine. Even my alignment was w/out a hitch.

So far I haven't seen an issue. I don't have the rest of my steering in yet so I can't say whether it will align correctly. Hoping to finish that up today.

Its been working fine. I haven't driven it a whole lot as I still need to do some body work and put the rear lights and bumper on but I don't see any problems with the idler arm. In fact I have the car back up on blocks to inspect and check torque on everything right now.

Do you happen to have a part number? The one linked in this thread is for different cars, and cross comparing ball joints on rockauto shows they don't use the same lower ball joints as our cars.

84 1LE 01-10-2021 06:21 PM

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

101-10014 and 101-10048 are both .5" taller. Neither one shows as fitting a 3rd gen, but ive got the 48 one in my umi a-arms. I know this one is the slightly larger dia for a-arms with slightly enlarged bores. Maybe the 14 part is the standard size bore fitting. Proforged can probably verify this though.101-10049 is the OE size for 3rd gens. Also, still no issues with these parts, including the idler arm.

91banditt2 01-10-2021 08:55 PM

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

For some reason Rock Auto isn’t offering Proforged for our cars anymore. Before, they did list the 101-10014 as a option

WTR388 01-17-2021 09:45 AM

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

I ended up ordering the 101-10048 ball joints. Everything I could read indicates they work on the S-10 lower arms, which use the same lower ball joints as us. I should have them in this the a-arms in the next week or so. Have to sand blast the a-arms because I'm in there.

WTR388 01-21-2021 04:23 PM

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

Just as an FYI, the 101-10048 joints fit in the stock a-arms perfectly, pressed them in today.

Re: Proforged experience - have any?

Just saw this thread. I used proforged for new idler arm, Pittman arm and center link last summer. Really tightened up the steering and looks like quality. Came highly recommended by a good local mechanic who works mostly on muscle cars and custom cars.
